Jack Dorsey, a co-founder and former CEO of

Twitter, is beta-testing a new social networking platform.

Dorsey had made the announcement that his decentralised social network Bluesky was seeking beta testers a week before Elon Musk gained control of Twitter.

The company said in February that it will establish Bluesky PBLLC, a Public Benefit LLC, as a stand-alone entity to carry out this strategy.

Twitter originally introduced Bluesky in 2019 to assist in creating a comparable decentralised concept for the top social media network. Establishing a reliable and transparent norm for public conversation is Bluesky's fundamental goal. However, there are currently no companies that have control over Bluesky.

In November 2021, Dorsey also resigned as CEO of Twitter, and in the months that followed, Musk announced a bid to acquire the social media platform. After a protracted battle, Elon Musk finally acquired control of Twitter on Thursday, and he promptly fired Parag Agrawal, its CEO, along with two other top executives.

The Authenticated Transfer Protocol (AT Protocol), a federated social network that is hosted by multiple websites rather than just one, will be used by the new app, according to the press release. Bluesky will update the protocol's specifications and make its workings known as it conducts beta tests.

The protocol testing process will then begin. Distributed protocol development is a challenging process, the company said this week in a news release. "Once a network is implemented, it involves coordination from numerous parties, therefore we'll start in private beta to sort out kinks. We will continue to refine the protocol specifications as we beta test and share information on how it functions. We'll move to the open beta when it's prepared," it added, providing a link to join the waitlist for the beta test.

The phrase "Bluesky" conjures a wide-open expanse of possibility, the press statement continued. It still serves as the name of our organisation and was the initial moniker for this project before it took shape. The application we're developing is called Bluesky since it will serve as a doorway to a world of opportunity on top of the AT Protocol.

According to Dorsey's tweet from last week, Bluesky intends to be a competitor to any company attempting to control the core principles of social media or the data of its users. The web5-based Zion v2 Project is also receiving backing from Jack Dorsey.
