Starbucks Leverages Polygon for Web3 Push

On September 12, Starbucks, a worldwide coffeehouse chain, 

Announced a partnership with the blockchain project Polygon. At the same time, the company unveiled Starbucks Odyssey, its Web3 technology. 

The Web3 platform Starbucks Odyssey will provide Starbucks Rewards members and the company's U.S. workers with the opportunity to earn NFT assets.

Starbucks has dipped its feet into the blockchain, Web3, and NFT technology by launching a new Polygon-powered Web3 application. The new Starbucks Odyssey experience will allow users to earn and purchase digital collectible stamps (NFTs), which will grant access to new, immersive coffee experiences.

Starbucks will be among the first companies to incorporate NFTs at scale with an industry-leading loyalty program. It will provide an accessible Web3 community, allowing for new methods to interact with members and partners (employees).

Polygon also acknowledged the partnership on Twitter and in a blog post titled Starbucks Taps Polygon for Its 'Starbucks Odyssey' Web3 Experience.

In the blog announcement, Polygon states: “This one-of-a-kind loyalty program experience is made possible by the Polygon Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network's cheap costs and fast transaction speeds.”

Starting today, Starbucks customers and workers may now join the queue to get an exclusive invitation to the Starbucks Odyssey experience. The platform, according to the company, will go live later this year. Ryan Butz, Starbucks' vice president of loyalty, strategy, and marketing, said that the technology is well positioned with the company's sustainability goals.

Butz noted in a statement on Monday that “building Starbucks Odyssey with technology that corresponds with our sustainability goals and commitments is a primary focus.” We took a very serious and comprehensive approach when deciding which blockchain to use, and Polygon's fast, low-cost, and carbon-neutral network is the ideal foundation for our first digital community, said the vice president of loyalty rewards.
