YouTube has appointed a web3-savvy leader as their new CEO.

This individual is well-versed in the latest technologies and trends and is poised to lead the company into the future.

YouTube's new CEO, Neal Mohan, has recently highlighted the potential of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to provide content creators with additional revenue streams. Mohan believes that NFTs could be a powerful tool for YouTube's creators to monetize their work and generate more income.

Google-owned YouTube has appointed Neal Mohan, an executive with a strong affinity for Web3 technology, as its new CEO following the departure of Susan Wojcicki this week.

Wojcicki stepped down from YouTube on Feb. 16 after nine years of successful leadership, during which she implemented the revolutionary revenue-sharing model and achieved numerous other accomplishments. She has now decided to embark on a new journey, focusing on family, health, and personal projects. Wojcicki will remain an advisor for Google's parent company Alphabet Inc.

Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mohan had served as YouTube's Chief Product Officer, where he was responsible for the much-debated removal of the video dislike button and the introduction of YouTube Shorts to rival TikTok and YouTube Music.

In February 2022, Mohan outlined his plans for Web3, which included the integration of a variety of new features such as Metaverse-based content experiences and content tokenization via Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). This announcement was met with some resistance from the NFT-skeptical community.

Mohan highlighted the potential of NFTs to provide creators with a new way to interact with their audiences and generate additional income. He gave examples of how creators could tokenize their videos, photos, art, and experiences.

"Web3 offers creators a range of new possibilities," he wrote in a blog post on February 10, 2022. "We believe that new technologies such as blockchain and NFTs can help creators to build stronger relationships with their fans. Together, they can collaborate on new projects and make money in ways that were not previously possible."

Despite being intended to potentially roll out last year, the Web 3-related plans have yet to materialize. However, with Mohan now at the helm, the firm is likely to make another push for the plans in the near future.

Following the announcement of Mohan's appointment as YouTube's new CEO, there has been surprisingly little FUD from the usually vocal NFT skeptics on Twitter, who are usually quick to criticize any news of mainstream tech connections.
