Quant began in June 2018 with the purpose of linking blockchains and networks on a global scale while maintaining network efficiency and compatibility. It is the first initiative to address the issue of interoperability by creating the first blockchain operating system.

The project is designed as an operating system for distributed ledger technology and the Overledger Network, which connects many blockchain networks. The project describes itself as the first blockchain-specific operating system.

Quant's major goal with Overledger is to bridge the gap between multiple blockchains. The Overledger network serves as the project's backbone, and Quant bills it as the ecosystem upon which the future digital economic ecosystem will be created.

Overledger enables developers to create decentralised multi-chain apps (also known as MApps) for their clients. Developers must own a specific number of Quant tokens in order to create a Mapp on the network (QNT).

Gilbert Verdian, one of the Quant network's creators, came up with the idea for the blockchain project while working in the healthcare industry. Verdian noted the significance of interoperability in ensuring that patients enrolled on various systems are covered.

Dr. Paolo Tasca, the second co-founder, is an entrepreneur, digital economist, and expert in distributed systems. He is also the co-author of many publications on fintech and the co-founder and head of the Retail Blockchain Consortium's governing board.
