Coinbase International now lets you trade futures on tokens before they launch, potentially revolutionizing crypto trading.
Users can now trade perpetual futures contracts on tokens that haven't launched yet. Once these tokens hit the market, the contracts will turn into standard perpetual futures.
Institutional investors can access this feature via Coinbase International, while retail traders can use Coinbase Advanced.
Initial margins are capped at 50%, or 2x leverage with a notional position limit of $50,000 per token ensuring responsible trading.
Pre-launch markets use a 4-hour exponential moving average (EMA) of the instrument’s mark prices for the Pre-Launch Index Price, making them distinct from traditional futures.
Coinbase wams that pre-launch markets are riskier with lower liquidity, higher volatility, & greater chances of liquidation, also not backed by the Liquidity Support Program
There's a possibility that some tokens may never launch. If this happens, pre-launch market won't convert to a standard perpetual futures market and might be suspended or delisted
Since launching in May 2023, Coinbase International has rapidly expanded, using a Bermuda Class F license to offer innovative global features.
