A master degree in blockchain technology will be granted from a Namibian university.

In 2024, a course on blockchain technology will be offered at the University of Namibia (UNAM). Samuel Nuungulu, the head of the university's IT department, claims that they want to lay the basis for potential tech firms to be incubated in the nation using the skills this programme would produce.

Nuungulu discussed the rationale for UNAM's decision to offer the level 9 master's degree.

They made the decision to use the degree as a springboard for cultivating these desperately needed skills throughout Africa and the rest of the world.

The head of UNAM said that blockchain-based data is already being "infused" into level 8 programmes. As early as next year, they plan to serve it in the Senate.

On the steering committee of UNAM's MSc in blockchain programme is author Gurvy Kavei, who recently released a book on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. In a recent interview, Kavei also confirmed that the university intends to offer a blockchain degree.
