As a Proof of Stake currency, Bitcoin will never change.

As a Proof of Stake

The following is a quote from Marty'sBent: “Again they are

trying to ‘change the code’.” Sign up for the newsletter here.

Greenpeace and the co-founder of ripple have launched an attack on Bitcoin's Proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm.

We are meeting here in this dark part of the internet, less than two months into the fifth anniversary of the New York Agreement, which has started a hot summer war between huge corporations in the Bitcoin area that believe they can launch an arbitrary enterprise. Users that are vehemently opposed to doubling the block size and soft forking SegWitinto the protocol. There appear to be people who have not learned their lessons from this battle or are unaware that it has occurred.

This has been demonstrated by Ripple-founder Chris Larsen, who should be in jail (and maybe this year) for securities fraud, and Greenpeace, an organization whose founder departed when his kid was picked on by others. Fanatics have declared their intention to"alter the code" of bitcoin.

They want to "modify the coding" for Bitcoin to go from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake since it is more "environmentally friendly."

It's remarkable that this coalition of intellectually stupid hysterics would spend millions of dollars on an ad campaign to "alter the code" when all they need to do is make a pledge. PR GitHub sites to the Bitcoin app, or simply fork their favorite software, tweak the code as they see suitable, and encourage others to download and use it. Nobody is standing in Chris Larsen's way of modifying the code. He had the option to do so if he so desired. Still, I'm very confident he doesn't have the mental capacity to do so.

The most difficult part of this "change code" effort will be convincing users to run the new code with a weaker and more centralized consensus mechanism. This is not going to happen.

This is a frenzied smear campaign undertaken by fanatical fanatics seeking to turn people back with stupid energy plans that provide no value for humanity but leave us all worse off.

In the following months, keep an eye out for the "alter the code" campaign and giggle at how badly it backfired. The fact that they were unable to convince individuals to download their modified code demonstrates how resistant Bitcoin is to social attacks like these.
