SBF signs extradition papers and is set to return to the United States to face further charges.
There is some optimism that he may be granted bail in the United States.
In today's Bahamas court hearing, SBF is scheduled to sign the final set of extradition papers.
Investors who invested their funds in FTX lost billions. The exchange eventually filed bankruptcy, and Sam Bankman-Fried resigned as CEO. Later, SBF was arrested in the Bahamas. However, the US was seeking SBF's extradition.
As per recent reports, SBF has signed his extradition papers, and a hearing for the same will take place on Wednesday in Nassau (Bahamas Capital). Doan Cleare, the Bahamas' Acting Commissioner of Corrections, confirmed the development.
After signing his surrender documents on Dec 20, the Bahamas Commissioner stated that SBF will sign a different set of papers to formalize his waiver of rights to fight extradition.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reported on December 20 that Bankman-legal Fried's team is in talks with federal prosecutors about allowing him to be released on bail if he is extradited to the United States.
It is anticipated that Bankman-Fried will sign the final set of its extradition document today, after which the US will have full jurisdiction over SBF.
Reports also noted that federal authorities intend to fly SBF back to the United States shortly after Wednesday's hearing. As per Bloomberg reports, the disgraced FTX founder would be accompanied to the United States by FBI agents in a non-commercial plane. Another source familiar with the matter noted that the plane will depart from a private airport in The Bahamas.
Meanwhile, additional extradition information will be available following the release of today's court documents. Till then, stay tuned to CoinGabbar for more information on the SBF's extradition to the United States.
