Ford Motor Company has filed 19 trademark

applications across its key automobile brands.

The move comes as several other companies also preparing to enter the world of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and the Metaverse.

Mike Kondoudis, a certified trademark attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), revealed in a Wednesday tweet that the company had filed a total of 19 trademark applications. The filing includes major automotive brands such as Mustang, Bronco, Lincoln, Explorer, and F-150 Lightning, among others.

The trademark applications include virtual automobiles, trucks, vans, SUVs, and clothing for its brands, as well as a proposed online marketplace for NFTs.

According to USPTO documents filed by Ford on September 2, the auto company intends to offer downloadable artwork, text, music, and video displaying its vehicles, SUVs, trucks, and vans, which will be authenticated by NFTs.

The company also revealed plans for downloadable virtual products. This includes computer applications with automotive accessories and apparel for use in online virtual worlds. It also covers virtual and augmented reality online trade exhibitions.

There are also plans to launch a digital marketplace to showcase other people's digital artwork. Furthermore, it also includes online retail store services featuring non-fungible tokens terra classic (NFTs) and digital collectibles.

Ford's entry into the Web3 space comes less than a month after Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford announced major job layoffs from the business's global workforce in order to minimize company expenditure.

Ford is not the first automobile manufacturer to enter the Metaverse. Automobile manufacturers such as Nissan, Toyota, and Hyundai have announced plans to enter the rapidly expanding Metaverse industry. Furthermore, luxury automakers like Bentley and Lamborghini have already launched NFT collections.
