Google Cloud Launches Online Courses for Generative AI, Riding on the Success of OpenAI's ChatGPT

Google Cloud has introduced a comprehensive set of online courses aimed at teaching the fundamentals of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems and providing an introduction to the Generative AI Studio development environment. The surge in popularity of generative AI systems, triggered by OpenAI's ChatGPT in November 2022, has spurred major tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Baidu to capitalize on the public's interest in large language models and image generators.

The new Google Cloud curriculum comprises nine modules covering various aspects of generative AI. It starts with introductory courses on generative AI, large language models, responsible AI, image generation, and Generative AI Studio. The program then delves deeper into crucial generative AI concepts like encoder-decoder architecture, attention mechanism, transformer, BERT models, and creating image captioning models.

To conclude the course, there is a "quest" that includes labs and timed assignments. Students who successfully complete these activities can earn a Generative AI Explorer–Vertex AI badge. Google Cloud states that these courses provide a solid introduction to generative AI, equipping learners with the knowledge to create, train, and deploy their own foundational models.
