On May 23, the Solana Foundation, a decentralized nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and maintenance of the Solana blockchain, made an announcement about the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into their platform. Solana Labs, the team behind Solana, developed a ChatGPT plugin, which is now available for download on GitHub. This plugin aims to facilitate a better understanding of Solana's data, protocols, computing infrastructure, and DeFi projects.
The current capabilities of the ChatGPT plugin include features such as purchasing nonfungible tokens (NFTs), transferring tokens, inspecting transactions, interpreting public account data, and discovering NFT collections based on floor prices on the Solana network. This integration reflects the growing importance of incorporating AI models into consumer-oriented applications.
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, emphasized the need for developers to consider how their applications will interact with AI models, as it represents a new way of instructing computers. To encourage further exploration of the intersection between Solana and AI, the Solana Foundation has increased its funding for grants in this area from $1 million to $10 million. The grants program has already received 50 applications.
In addition, the Solana Foundation has launched a three-month accelerator program for university students, focusing on blockchain and AI. The program received numerous applications, and its AI cohort has already produced an "ask Solana U" chatbot.
Within the Solana ecosystem, Hivemapper introduced AI Trainers, which convert real-world imagery into detailed digital maps covering aspects like speed limits and warning signs. Since its launch, Solana developers claim that 5.7 million AI training reviews have been initiated by protocol contributors, resulting in consensus for 500,000 objects.
