The Innocence of Off

Blockchain investigator Officer's Notes, also known as Officer_cia, has been caught up in the aftermath of the $195 million Euler Finance hack.

Officer's Notes, who is a respected security researcher, blogger, and auditor for blockchain security firm Pessimistic, was initially believed to be a suspect in the hack, but Euler Finance has since clarified that Officer's Notes was never considered a suspect.

In fact, the Euler team had reached out to Officer's Notes for assistance in identifying potential security tool usage by the attacker to avoid detection. Officer's Notes complied with the request and provided data logs from their "Crypto Op Sec Self Guard" GitHub repo, including the IP addresses of visitors, but expressed regret for the potential violation of readers' privacy.

Officer's Notes denied any involvement in the hack, citing their busy schedule as evidence of their innocence and urging anyone who interacted with their repositories to use a VPN for privacy protection.

The attacker responsible for the Euler Finance hack attempted to negotiate with the Euler team to return the stolen funds and posted an apology letter on the Ethereum network expressing remorse. Fortunately, all of the recoverable funds were returned by the attacker by April 4.

This incident highlights the importance of increased security measures in the cryptocurrency industry as more individuals and institutions invest in digital assets. It also underscores the need for respecting privacy in investigations and the potential impact on innocent parties.

Despite the allegations against Officer's Notes, they remain a respected figure in the blockchain security community, known for their informative blog posts and explanations of crypto security topics.
