Following the halting of withdrawals from the Thai cryptocurrency exchange Zipmex last week, local financial regulators are investigating potential investors' losses.

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is taking steps to collect all essential information from investors on how Zipmex's problems have affected them.

On July 25, the Thai SEC formally declared that Zipmex consumers can submit information via an online forum on the Thai SEC's official website.

According to regulators, the SEC received a number of complaints from persons affected by Zipmex after the crypto exchange temporarily halted withdrawals of Thai baht and digital assets on July 20.

“The SEC previously issued a letter asking the firm to create an effective mechanism for contacting customers and handling complaints, as well as to consider consumer safety,” the announcement notes.

Zipmex, along with Upbit, Bitkub, and other platforms, is one of the major cryptocurrency exchanges legally regulated by the Thai government. Last Monday, the Zipmex exchange unexpectedly halted withdrawals, claiming a "combination of events" outside the company's control, including "volatile market conditions."

The withdrawals were halted when Bitcoin (BTC) reached multi-week highs above $24,000. Zipmex partially resumed certain platform functions, resuming withdrawals from its trading wallet two days after suspending withdrawals. According to the firm, transfers from Z Wallet, deposits, and trades will remain disabled until further notice.
