Coin Info

Waves is a multi-purpose blockchain platform that enables a variety of use cases, including decentralised applications (DApps) and smart contracts.

Waves was founded in June 2016 as a result of one of the cryptocurrency industry's first initial coin offerings (ICO), with the goal of improving on the original blockchain platforms in terms of speed, functionality, and user-friendliness.

To expand on its initial idea, the platform has undergone several modifications and included additional spin-off functions.

WAVES, a token with an unlimited supply and the native token of Waves, is utilised for conventional payments like block rewards.

Waves is linked with its creator, Ukrainian-born scientist Alexander Ivanov (also known as Sasha Ivanov).

Ivanov was previously involved in the cryptocurrency industry before founding Waves, having launched the now-defunct instant exchange Coinomat and indexing site Cooleindex. Additionally, he developed CoinoUSD, an early stablecoin pegged to the dollar.

Ivanov frequently participates in interviews to discuss Waves and the current trends in the broader blockchain sector.

Waves, being one of the earliest solutions in its sector, set out to expand on the early blockchain platforms and products.

Waves stated in 2020 that its platform would be compatible with the Ethereum network by issuing the WAVES token as an ERC-20 standard asset.
