MyMonero Sunset: Cake Wallet to Guide Migration

After more than a decade serving the Monero community, MyMonero will sunset its wallet service in early 2026 and entrust its users to Cake Wallet.

October 7, 2025 — MyMonero Sunset: Cake Wallet, one of the longest-standing light wallets in the Monero ecosystem, announced plans to sunset its operations on January 6, 2026, transferring stewardship of its users to Cake Wallet

MyMonero and Cake Wallet have collaborated closely to ensure a smooth, secure transition. Cake Wallet, known for its open-source development and privacy-first approach, will provide users with a clear migration path that maintains rigorous privacy standards.

“MyMonero has been a pillar in the MyMonero Sunset: Cake Wallet community whose work helped bring Monero to the mainstream.” said Vikrant Sharma, CEO of Cake Labs. “We at Cake Wallet are proud that MyMonero chose us as stewards of their users and assets as they sunset their apps.”

This comes only a few months after Exodus partnered with Cake Wallet to help them migrate their tens of thousands of Monero users to Cake Wallet. Further evidence of the community’s confidence in Cake’s reliability and alignment with Monero’s privacy ethos.

How Users Can Migrate

MyMonero users can move to Cake Wallet through one of three options:

  1. Restore their existing wallet using their 25-word seed phrase directly in Cake Wallet.

  2. Create a new Polyseed wallet in MyMonero Sunset: Cake Wallet and simply send your funds over from MyMonero

  3. If they use any other cryptocurrencies alongside Monero and want to simplify their life, Cake Wallet now supports using a standard 12-word BIP 39 seed for Monero alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and most other currencies in Cake Wallet.

Comprehensive migration instructions are available in Cake Wallet’s official documentation.

Why Cake Wallet Was Chosen
MyMonero cited several reasons for selecting Cake Wallet:
  • Fully open-source and the code is auditable by the community

  • No requirement for view keys, transaction privacy remains intact

  • First-class Monero support

  • Long-term commitment to privacy, security, and user sovereignty
