पिछले कुछ सालों से क्रिप्टोकरेंसी मुद्राओं की लोकप्रियता बढ़ी है. इन्हें ब्लॉकचेन सॉफ़्टवेयर के ज़रिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है. ये डिजिटल मुद्रा इनक्रिप्टेड यानी कोडेड होती हैं. इसे एक डिसेंट्रेलाइज्ड सिस्टम के जरिए मैनेज किया जाता है. इसमें प्रत्येक लेन-देन का डिजिटल सिग्नेचर द्वारा वेरिफिकेशन होता है. क्रिप्टोग्राफी की मदद से इसका रिकॉर्ड रखा जाता है. क्षितिज बताते हैं कि इसके जरिए खरीदी को क्रिप्टो माइनिंग (Cryptocurrency Mininig) कहा जाता है क्योंकि हर जानकारी का डिजिटल रूप से डेटाबेस तैयार करना पड़ता है. जिनके द्वारा यह माइनिंग की जाती है, उन्हें माइनर्स कहा जाता है. आसान भाषा में और समझें तो क्रिप्टोकरेंसी ब्लॉकचेन तकनीक पर आधारिक एक वर्चुअल करेंसी है जो क्रिप्टोग्राफी द्वारा सुरक्षित है. यह सारा काम पावरफुल कंप्यूटर्स के जरिए होता है. क्षितिज तो यहां तक कहते हैं कि इसके कोड को कॉपी करना लगभग नामुमकिन है.

इस बारे में क्षितिज बताते हैं कि बहुत सारे लोग मानते हैं कि क्रिप्टोकरेंसी 2009 में सतोशी नाकामोतो ने शुरू किया था, लेकिन ऐसा नहीं है. इससे पहले भी कई निवेशकों ने या देशों ने डिजिटल मुद्रा पर काम किया था. यूएस ने 1996 मुख्य इलेक्ट्रॉनिक गोल्ड बनाया था, ऐसा गोल्ड जिसे रखा नहीं जा सकता था, लेकिन इससे दूसरी चीजें खरीदी जा सकती थीं. हालांकि 2008 इसे बैन कर दिया गया. वैसा ही 2000 की साल में नीदरलैंड ने पेट्रोल भरने के लिए कैश को स्मार्ट कार्ड से जोड़ा था.
