Coinbase Crypto Campaign Sparks Debate: Banned by TV Networks in UK

“Everything Is Fine” is NOT fine. A Coinbase crypto advertisement sparks a controversial debate over the provocative theme that suggests crypto adoption.

Coinbase, one of the world's biggest cryptocurrency platforms, is once again in the spotlight. Its recent advertisement, banned in the UK has triggered both support and criticism, especially after CEO Brian Armstrong X post openly spoke about it.

What Was the Coinbase Advertisement About?

On 31st July 2025, Coinbase released an advertisement titled “Everything is Fine.” It uses sarcasm to talk about the serious issues going on in the UK. It highlights the high cost of living, failed financial systems, and public frustration with the labour government.

The campaign also sheds light on the wealthy individuals leaving the country due to economic decline and the worsened financial structure. The ad also emphasises the rising popularity of Bitcoin. The exchange highlights how the traditional financial system is broken and how crypto could be a better solution for people.

Why Was the Campaign Banned in the UK?

The UK TV networks banned the ad, claiming it was too political and misleading. The decision echoes past controversies. For example, in 2021, the Advertising Standards Authority had already banned a Coinbase wallet advertisement for being unclear.

This “Everything Is Fine” campaign did not support any political party. The regulators still said that it has painted a negative picture of the government and promoted crypto in a way that could mislead people. More than half of the population still believes that cryptocurrency is a gambling product, and surfing of this could portray the image of the government negatively.

Brian Armstrong’s Response

Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, responded strongly in the X post. He defended the ad, saying:

“Our ad, which got banned by the TV networks, has sparked quite a reaction. If you can’t say it, then there must be a kernel of truth in it.”

He added:

“The message isn’t political—it’s about fixing a system that’s not working. There were many ads similar to this still running in the country. Censorship only makes the message more powerful.” Armstrong criticised outdated views that compare crypto to gambling and said this kind of thinking slows progress.

Public Reactions

The public response has been mixed:

  • Many in the Bitcoin and crypto community praised the campaign for being bold and honest.

  • Critics said the ad was disrespectful and used the country's struggles for marketing purposes.

  • Some experts believe the ad could spark long-term discussions on financial reforms and digital currency adoption.

Interestingly, the ad launch also came just as the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) lifted the ban on retail trading of crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs). This move may help the exchange grow its presence in the UK despite the ad ban.

Final Wrap-Up

The advertisement ban has become a hot topic, touching on politics, money, and free speech. While the exchange faces pushback, the conversation it started is growing. The advertising campaign has drawn attention to how many people feel left out by the current financial system, and why crypto feels like a better path. Whether one agrees with the campaign or not, it’s clear that Coinbase news continues to push important discussions.
