Apple Warns Social Media App Damus Over Bitcoin Tipping Feature
Apple Cautions Social Media App Damus About Its BTC Tipping Function
Apple has warned decentralized social media app Damus that its Bitcoin tipping feature, called Zaps, violates its policy and could result in the app's removal from the App Store. Damus integrated the Lightning Network widget to enable Bitcoin payments and tips. Apple's policy allows only in-app purchases for tipping features, regardless of whether they are optional. The Damus team argued that they do not sell digital goods but provide P2P transactions similar to Venmo or Cash App. Bitcoin tipping has gained popularity on platforms like Twitter and Reddit, raising questions about Apple's inconsistency in enforcing its policies.
