Interest in cryptocurrencies drops to its lowest point since 2020

Online interest in cryptocurrency has significantly declined, reaching levels last seen in late 2020, with a Google Trends score of 17 out of 100. This decline has been ongoing since May 2022, following the collapse of the Terra Luna ecosystem and a subsequent spike in November due to the FTX exchange collapse. Bitcoin and Ethereum have experienced similar downward trajectories. The lack of institutional excitement and Bitcoin's stagnant price around $28,000 for ten weeks contribute to the declining interest. However, decentralized finance (DeFi) and meme coins have seen increased search volumes. Nigeria leads in crypto-related searches, while South American countries show low interest. Meanwhile, interest in artificial intelligence continues to surge.
