Greg Vitali, a Pennsylvania House Representative has removed a two-year crypto mining ban from a bill aimed at regulating the industry’s energy consumption. The trade labour unions and Democratic Party leaders cited pressure on Vitali as the reason for the change. Pennsylvania House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee narrowly passed Cryptocurrency Energy Conservation Act focusing on an impact study of mining operations and new reporting requirements. Crypto miners in the state will now have to provide information of their operations, energy sources, emissions, and consumption. The two-year ban, which halted new mining permits, was dropped to ensure the passage of the bill.
