Blockchain-based digital payments network Ripple has acquired a stake in cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp in the first quarter of 2023. Ripple has acquired shares owned by Pantera Capital, a digital asset investment firm based in the United States. Pantera was one of the largest shareholders in Bitstamp until 2018, when the exchange was acquired by Belgium-based investment firm NXMH in an all-case deal. At that time the company was valued at around $60 million. Notably, it is not yet clear how much Ripple paid for the Bitstamp acquisition and how the deal came to be.
