What Actually Drives XRP’s Price? 6 Factors That Matter

XRP has spent much of 2026 under pressure, falling from $1.85 at the start of the year after briefly reaching $2.41 in January. The token entered August near $1.06 after settling into a narrow range between roughly $1.00 and $1.18, leaving investors focused on what could finally push XRP out of its prolonged consolidation.

The answer is not one single catalyst. XRP’s price is being shaped by a combination of regulation, monetary policy, institutional demand, exchange supply, technical positioning, and the direction of the broader crypto market. These six factors could determine whether the $1 level becomes the foundation for a recovery or eventually gives way to another leg lower.

1. Regulation Remains One of XRP’s Biggest Price Drivers

Few major cryptocurrencies are as sensitive to regulatory developments as XRP. One of the most closely watched developments in 2026 is the CLARITY Act, which could provide greater certainty over the regulatory treatment of digital assets in the United States.

The legislation has become particularly relevant to XRP because clearer commodity classification could reduce one of the uncertainties that has historically weighed on institutional participation. However, the Senate set the bill aside on July 27 before its August recess, pushing the next meaningful opportunity for progress into September.

That leaves August without one of the catalysts XRP investors had been anticipating. Regulatory clarity would not automatically guarantee higher prices, but it could remove a major obstacle for institutions considering greater exposure to XRP and related investment products.

This makes September particularly important. Progress on the legislation could revive institutional interest, while another delay would leave XRP more dependent on macro conditions and broader crypto market momentum.

2. Federal Reserve Policy Can Determine Risk Appetite

XRP may be a cryptocurrency, but its price increasingly responds to the same liquidity conditions affecting stocks and other risk assets. Federal Reserve policy therefore remains another major factor behind the XRP price outlook.

There is no scheduled Fed rate decision in August, with the next meeting due on September 16. That shifts attention toward inflation data and the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium from August 27 to 29. This year's theme, "Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy," also gives the event additional relevance for digital assets.

United States Fed Funds Interest Rate

The direction of interest rates matters because lower rates generally improve financial conditions and encourage investors to move toward higher-risk assets. Persistent inflation, on the other hand, could keep monetary policy restrictive for longer and limit speculative demand.

August inflation data could therefore move XRP even without any token-specific development. A softer reading could strengthen expectations for future rate cuts and help XRP challenge resistance, while hotter inflation could put the $1 support level under renewed pressure.

3. Institutional Demand Through XRP ETFs

Institutional capital has become another important part of the XRP price equation following the introduction of spot XRP ETFs. The early numbers, however, suggest demand has cooled considerably.

Spot XRP ETFs attracted approximately $27.29 million during July, according to the supplied SoSoValue data. The funds recorded zero net flows during 11 of the month's 22 trading sessions. That is a sharp slowdown from the roughly $666 million gathered during their first month of trading in November 2025.

XRP ETF Daily Volume

The slowdown helps explain why XRP has struggled to rebound despite signs that selling pressure is becoming exhausted. Reduced available supply can establish a floor, but sustained appreciation generally requires new demand.

ETF flows could consequently become one of the clearest signals to watch during any XRP recovery. A return of consistent institutional inflows would provide stronger evidence that buyers are willing to accumulate around current prices, while continued weak flows could keep XRP trapped in its existing range.

4. Exchange Supply Is at a Seven-Year Low

One of the more constructive signals comes from XRP's supply dynamics. Approximately 1.6 billion XRP are currently held on exchanges, according to the supplied data, marking the lowest level in seven years.

That compares with roughly 3.76 billion XRP held on exchanges in October 2025. In less than a year, the amount of readily tradable XRP sitting on exchanges has therefore fallen by more than half.

This matters because tokens moved away from exchanges are generally less immediately available for sale. Binance XRP deposits have also fallen to historically low levels, reinforcing the idea that potential sell-side liquidity is shrinking.

At the same time, around 60% of circulating XRP is reportedly held at a loss, with an average cost basis near $1.48. That creates an unusual setup in which many remaining holders are underwater, but fewer tokens are positioned for immediate selling. It could help explain why $1 has remained resilient even as fresh buying demand has been limited.

5. XRP’s Technical Setup Is Extremely Oversold

Technical positioning is another factor that could shape XRP's next significant move. Weekly momentum has fallen to levels reportedly seen only once before, around the 2022 market bottom when XRP traded near $0.29.

An oversold reading does not guarantee an immediate rebound. It does, however, suggest that the extended decline has already removed a substantial amount of speculative excess from the market.

The $1 level is now the most important technical area. XRP has repeatedly defended this psychological support after reaching a June 26 low around $1.009. As long as buyers continue protecting the area, XRP can remain in consolidation while waiting for a stronger catalyst.

Resistance sits around $1.18 to $1.20. A recovery through that range would represent the first meaningful sign that momentum is shifting back toward buyers. Conversely, a decisive break below $1 could expose XRP to the $0.85 to $0.90 region.

6. Bitcoin Still Sets the Direction

XRP-specific developments can influence short-term sentiment, but Bitcoin remains one of the most powerful external drivers of XRP's price. The supplied outlook notes that XRP has not traded independently of Bitcoin this year, making broader crypto market conditions crucial to any recovery scenario.

The August outlook assumes Bitcoin can maintain support above approximately $58,000. If Bitcoin remains stable, XRP has a better chance of defending $1 and consolidating until stronger catalysts arrive in September.

A sharp Bitcoin decline would change that setup. Weakness across the broader crypto market could overwhelm XRP's favorable supply dynamics and push the token through support even without negative Ripple-specific news.

The opposite is also true. A stronger Bitcoin rally accompanied by improving risk appetite could provide the market-wide liquidity XRP needs to break above its current range. This means investors evaluating an XRP price prediction cannot look exclusively at Ripple or XRP-specific news.

CoinCheckup XRP Price Prediction

According to the latest CoinCheckup XRP price prediction, the model points to a relatively quiet August before XRP potentially enters a stronger recovery phase in September and October.

For August 2026, CoinCheckup projects an average XRP price of around $1.06, with the token expected to trade between approximately $1.02 and $1.16. That forecast fits the broader expectation for a subdued month, particularly with major regulatory and monetary policy catalysts pushed into September.

XRP Price Prediction

The outlook becomes considerably more bullish in September. XRP is projected to average approximately $1.42, while the upper end of the forecast reaches $1.59. Momentum could remain strong in October, when the average price rises to around $1.45 and the maximum projection reaches $1.60, the highest level forecast for the remainder of 2026.

CoinCheckup expects some of that momentum to fade toward the end of the year. The November average falls to approximately $1.29, followed by $1.20 in December. Even so, those levels would leave XRP above its projected August average, suggesting that a successful defense of the $1 area could establish a base for a broader recovery.

The 2027 forecast initially points to another period of consolidation. Average prices remain between roughly $1.09 and $1.24 from January through May before the model anticipates a much stronger move in June. XRP could average $1.40 that month and reach as high as $1.66, representing the strongest upside target in the supplied forecast.

July also remains constructive, with the projected average climbing to $1.53 and the upper end reaching $1.60, before XRP moderates toward an average of $1.38 in August 2027.

Overall, the CoinCheckup XRP price prediction suggests that August could remain a base-building period rather than the start of an immediate breakout. September and October provide the strongest upside window for the remainder of 2026, while June and July 2027 emerge as another potentially important bullish phase if XRP can maintain its longer-term recovery.
