The FOMC Minutes today drops at 2:00 PM ET, giving markets a full readout of the July 28-29 meeting where the Federal Reserve held rates at 3.50-3.75%.
Three regional presidents, Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari and Lorie Logan, dissented in favor of a hike, making this one of the more closely watched Fed meeting minutes releases in months.

Traders are lining up for clues on the Fed rate decision 2026 path, and reaction could be sharp either way.
Before the release, the crypto market today shows a cautious tone. Total market cap sits near $2.2 trillion, up a slight 0.32% on the day, based on CoinMarketCap tracking data.

Bitcoin price today sits around $64,215, roughly flat on the day but up close to 1% over the week. Ethereum holds nearly $1,914.
A few other numbers stand out:
Fear and Greed Index: 41, in neutral territory
Altcoin Season Index: 44 out of 100
24-hour liquidations: $175.44 million, down 13.66%
Crypto ETF net inflows: plus $261.8 million on August 18, split between $190.4 million into Bitcoin funds and $71.4 million into Ethereum funds
That inflow trend suggests some institutional appetite remains steady heading into the outcomes.
Important: Cryptocurrency markets are highly volatile, and are subject to frequent changes in numbers. Data is based on CoinMarketCap’s August 2026 snapshot.
The U.S. FOMC minutes are expected to show how far hawkish concerns spread beyond the three dissenters. Officials weighed inflation still elevated from supply and energy shocks against a labor market described as stable. Strong productivity gains, partly tied to AI-related investment, also entered the discussion.
Three broad outcomes are on the table:
More hawkish than expected: risk assets, including crypto, could sell off hard
More dovish than expected: markets could rally on rate-cut hopes
No major surprises: a mixed, choppy reaction is likely
Chair Kevin Warsh has leaned less on forward guidance lately, which makes each Fed meeting minutes release carry extra weight for reading the internal debate.
Separately, the Federal Reserve has a $4.243 billion Treasury bill purchase scheduled today, part of its ongoing effort to keep reserves ample. This isn't an automatic bullish signal on its own.
More liquidity can support risk assets, but the effect depends on whether that liquidity actually flows into markets. Bitcoin price reaction in the hours after the FOMC meeting report will offer an early read.

Bitcoin behaves like a liquidity-sensitive asset around Fed events. Research tracking prior cycles found unexpected tightening tends to pull BTC lower on announcement day, with effects sometimes building over following sessions. Dovish surprises have historically done the opposite, lifting prices as discount rates ease.
That said, lasting trend shifts from a single policy reports release are uncommon, showing up in roughly one out of six cases in recent-year data. Fed policy crypto link has also loosened somewhat as ETF flows and on-chain activity play a bigger role in price direction.
