Movement Network Testnet: Your Complete Guide to Tasks, Airdrop & What's Next?
Movement Labs ran one of crypto's most talked-about incentivized testnets in 2024, rewarding early users with MOVE tokens through the MoveDrop program. The testnet is now complete, the mainnet is live with $250M+ TVL, and the ecosystem is actively growing. The Move-Based Ethereum L2 Is Here, and Early Movers Get Rewarded. Here's everything you need to know, from start to now.
Movement Network is an Ethereum Layer 2 project built by Movement Labs, a San Francisco-based blockchain firm backed by Polychain Capital, Binance Labs, and OKX Ventures ($41.4M+ raised).
Its core technology is MoveVM, a blockchain virtual machine originally designed by Meta (Facebook) for safer smart contracts. Movement brings MoveVM to Ethereum for the first time, creating an L2 that combines Ethereum's security with Move's performance.
Uses the Move programming language more secure by design, and prevents common exploits
Capable of 160,000 TPS with parallel transaction execution
First Move-based chain that settles directly to Ethereum
Uses Celestia for data availability — high throughput, low cost
One-line summary: Movement is a faster, safer Ethereum L2 powered by MoveVM and it's now live for public participation.
Here's the full timeline so you know exactly where things stand:
Phase | Date | Status |
Public Testnet (Parthenon) | July 2024 | Complete |
Porto Testnet V2 | Oct–Nov 2024 | Complete |
MoveDrop Snapshot | Nov 23, 2024 | Done |
Token Generation Event (MOVE) | Dec 2024 | Live |
Developer Mainnet | Jan 28, 2025 | Live |
Public Mainnet Beta | March 10, 2025 | Live — $250M+ TVL at launch |
Ongoing Ecosystem Expansion | 2025–2026 | Active |
The testnet phase is now complete the project has graduated to full public mainnet with permissionless smart contract deployment.
The Movement Labs testnet airdrop program was called MoveDrop, an incentivized testnet campaign tied to the "Building the Parthenon" initiative.
Up to 1,000,000,000 MOVE tokens (10% of the total supply) were allocated for early participants
The snapshot was taken on November 23, 2024
Users earned rewards through quest completion, Discord roles, and community activity
Activity | Reward Type |
Quest completion (Guilds) | MOVE allocation based on tier |
Discord role holders | Allocation by role difficulty |
Hackathon participants (Battle of Olympus) | Direct allocation |
"gmove" posts on X | Random selection rewards |
Ambassador (Centurions) | Dedicated allocation |
Season 1 MoveDrop is now claimed. Users could claim MOVE on Ethereum Mainnet, or wait to claim on Movement Mainnet for a 25% bonus.
Here's what's currently active on the live network:
Since the Movement Network testnet has graduated to mainnet, you'll now want to connect to the live network directly:
Use Razor Wallet (native Move wallet) or any EVM-compatible wallet
Add the Movement Network Mainnet to interact with live apps
Visit the Movement Network Faucet: faucet.movementnetwork.xyz
For testnet: paste your wallet address, solve the captcha, and click "Get Move."
For mainnet: use the Movement Bridge at bridge.movementnetwork.xyz
Six protocols launched at mainnet. More are added regularly:
Echelon — money market/lending
MovePosition — now the canonical money market on Movement
Meridian — liquidity marketplace
Avitus — perpetuals protocol
BRKT — prediction market
Cornucopia — $250M+ multi-asset DeFi liquidity program
Follow @movement_xyz on X
Join the Movement Discord at discord.gg/moveindustries
Watch for new guild campaigns, hackathons, and community programs
This is more than a testnet farming opportunity it's a serious infrastructure bet. The Movement Network testnet live phase drew over 605K users within its first month alone.
$250M+ TVL at public mainnet launch is exceptionally rare for a new network
Joined Polygon's AggLayer, bridging Move and EVM ecosystems
Cornucopia program includes a $100M Ethena stable vault institutional-grade DeFi from day one
MoveVM Ethereum Layer 2 project positioning puts it in direct competition with Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base but with a security edge
Detail | Info |
Total Supply | 10 billion MOVE |
Initial Airdrop Allocation | 10% (1B MOVE) |
Use Cases | Gas fees, staking, governance |
Staking | Live at staking.movementnetwork.xyz |
Most Ethereum L2s just copy the EVM. Movement does something different.
Feature | Standard EVM | MoveVM (Movement) |
Asset safety | Reentrancy vulnerabilities possible | Resources can't be duplicated or lost |
Parallel execution | Sequential (mostly) | Native parallelism |
Smart contract security | Developer-dependent | Language-enforced rules |
Speed | Standard L2 throughput | Up to 160,000 TPS |
This is why MoveVM scaling solution is seen as a genuine leap — not just a faster copy of existing tech. Ethereum compatibility and Move security in one place.
Movement Labs continues to build post-mainnet aggressively:
USDCx — Movement's native USDC-backed stablecoin (launched March 2026)
Motion Wallet — Movement's own native wallet app (launched April 2026)
Avant integration — institutional-grade yield for everyday users
Stableyard investment — full-stack stablecoin payments layer
Global Hubs program — regional community expansion worldwide
M1 Hackathon — ongoing developer competitions with winners announced Feb 2026
The ecosystem is growing fast. DeFi development on Starknet may get the headlines, but DeFi on Movement is where the TVL is actually flowing.
Movement Network testnet was just the beginning. The project has moved fast from testnet launch in July 2024 to a $250M+ TVL mainnet by March 2025, all in under a year.
For crypto testnet farming participants, Season 1 MoveDrop is done. But the mainnet ecosystem is live, staking is active, new protocols are launching monthly, and the team continues to build with institutional-grade backing.
This is a MoveVM blockchain with real DeFi infrastructure, a live token, and a growing ecosystem not just a testnet campaign. If you missed the airdrop, you haven't missed Movement.
