The launch marks one of the company’s biggest expansions beyond spot crypto trading. 

According to the Bloomberg reporting, an official (not preferred to disclose name) stated that the company is planning to rollout massive development on December 17, while refusing to confirm the specific details.

Gemini recently secured a CFTC Designated Contract Market (DCM) license to launch regulated prediction markets, while Robinhood and Kalshi have introduced event-based trading for U.S. users. Crypto.com also partnered with Trump Media & Technology Group to build new forecasting platforms.

A Glance at the Structure of Upcoming Updates

Coinbase is a founding member of the Coalition for Prediction Markets (CPM) and plans to offer yes-or-no event contracts on elections, sports, economic data, and breaking news using USDC. Market activity for prediction platforms has risen over 30% in the past month, reflecting sharp growth in demand.

The platform’s tokenized stocks offering may be even more significant. Unlike competitors relying on third-party issuers, the exchange intends to tokenize U.S. equities directly on its own infrastructure. This allows the exchange to maintain full control over issuance, compliance, and trading.

Coinbase has already strengthened its presence in settlement services, Kalshi selected Coinbase-Custody to hold USDC for its trading operations. Internal product screenshots circulating since July hinted at both new features, fueling anticipation ahead of the showcase.
