Charlie Kirk, a close ally of US President Donald Trump and strong Bitcoin advocate, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves not only through the US political landscape but also through the crypto industry, given his strong advocacy for Bitcoin and digital assets.

What Happened to Charlie Kirk?

Yesterday, while speaking at Utah University, addressing 3000+ people, Kirk was shot and killed. Though he was taken to the hospital immediately after he got shot in the neck, he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has sparked widespread shock and outrage, with leaders from both sides of the aisle paying tribute to Kirk's influential work. Utah Governor Spencer Cox addressed this attempt as a “political assassination.”

He added that a “person of interest” was arrested the same evening. But reportedly, no charges have been filed yet. According to Cox, there's no evidence suggesting a second person was involved in the incident.

Significantly, his death is a vital loss for the crypto community. He has been a vocal supporter of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. He had expressed enthusiasm for the US Bitcoin Reserve strategy, urging the country to adopt the cryptocurrency. The crypto-friendly activist had also suggested using the tariff revenue to buy more BTCs, which he believed could help lessen national debt.

Acknowledging the significance of BTC as a “scarce” asset, he said during an interview on the Iced Coffee Hour Podcast, “Bitcoin is legitimately scarce, and it is more likely to go to a million than to zero.” He often drew parallels between Bitcoin's rise and the global dominance of the English language and the US dollar, arguing that once adoption hits a tipping point, it's unstoppable.

Kirk’s BTC advocacy corroborated with Michael Saylor’s view of Bitcoin’s potential growth. Charlie shared a similar outlook to MicroStrategy's Michael Saylor, suggesting BTC could see significant growth, potentially increasing tenfold over the next decade.

Social media has overflowed with tributes and condolences following Kirk's death. The cryptocurency community on X has particularly expressed its shock at the news. Kirk's promotion of BTC as a financial safe haven and a tool for independence struck a chord with many in the crypto space.
