42DAO Exploit Explained: What Happened?

42DAO runs the Balance Protocol on the BNB Chain. The project built $BLC as a "Stable Core" algorithmic stablecoin. The coin meant to hold near $1 through a vault system similar to MakerDAO, where vaults hold collateral, mostly BTCB, to back the token.

The attacker pushed a fake, extremely low BTCB price through the Spotter module. That fake price triggered the Dog module, the part of the system that handles liquidations. 

In one single transaction, several BTCB vaults liquidated at prices far below their real value, and the attacker walked away with the collateral, as per SlowMist findings.
