Pi coin network, or just Pi Network, is a controversial crypto project that started in 2019. The network has seen much development since, however, we’re still awaiting the opening of its mainnet and native token.

The crypto project lets people carry out crypto mining. The crypto miners can use the project to mine cryptocurrencies from their smartphones.

The Launch Of Open Network

As per the team, the launch of Open Network is near and supposed to be the first ever milestone for Pi crypto. This will, however, happen when 15 million users pass the required KYC verifications and migrate to the mainnet. While this had a deadline, the date was shifted several times, which is now January 31, 2025. The Grace period extension is the Pi Network’s preparation to launch Open Network this quarter.

The team said they're “making excellent progress towards Open Network.”

Drawing Criticism

The development has been applauded by many, but it also faced backlash from those who found it a struggle to pass verifications and migrate to the blockchain of the project. They were also baffled with the repeated delays and a lack of clear information about the native token launch. 

In response, Pi crypto Network asked them to join a dedicated Telegram chat to get answers to questions.

Popular Despite Backlash

Despite the ongoing delays and criticism, Pi Network application has successfully exceeded 100 million downloads. The project has gained much popularity in Asian countries, especially.

As per reports, Upbit and Bithumb are the only two crypto entities ahead of Pi Network in terms of the number of customers. While South Korea has over 1.3M Pi Network users, this number exceeds the domestic client base of popular crypto exchanges like Binance and Coinbase.
