Ripple CTO David Schwartz is stepping down from his position, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shape the future of XRP and blockchain technology. After an impressive 13 years at the helm of the technology strategy, he is quitting his role at the end of this year.
However, he assured that he is not disappearing entirely, promising to remain active and influential in the ecosystem. As per his announcement, he will joint the board of directors afterwards.
In a recent X post, Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, announced his potential departure from his role only to join the director board. He said,
“The time has come for me to step back from my day-to-day duties as Ripple CTO at the end of this year. I’m really looking forward to spending more time with the kids and grandkids and going back to the hobbies I set aside. But be warned, I’m not going away from the XRP community. You haven’t seen the last of me (now, or ever).”
Schwartz joined the platform in 2011 as a cryptographer and was promoted to CTO in 2018. As one of the original architects of the XRPL, Schwartz has played a pivotal role in shaping Ripple's technological evolution. His contributions include developing the XRP Ledger's core infrastructure and advocating for regulatory compliance and decentralization. Schwartz's vision for XRP Ledger extends beyond payments, encompassing DeFi apps, NFTs, smart contracts, and token issuance.
While David Schwartz is stepping down, he is expected to stay connected to the company. He'll reportedly join the board of directors and take on the role of CTO Emeritus, allowing him to pursue personal projects while maintaining ties with the community. This move lets him focus on his family and hobbies while still contributing to the firm’s mission and long-term vision. His post read,
“I’ll still be in and out of the Ripple office as CTO Emeritus, and as my last task at Ripple, Chris asked me to join Ripple’s Board of Directors to continue supporting the company’s mission and long-term vision…and I accept.”
He added that he has been running his own XRPL node, exploring new use cases for XRP beyond the team’s core business. He's looking forward to spending more time coding, engaging with developers, and experimenting with applications that go beyond payments, allowing him to pursue his personal interests and projects.
This move comes on the heels of the official settlement of the XRP lawsuit with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Schwartz has been a key figure at the platform throughout its prolonged battle with the US SEC. Despite the lawsuit's challenges, he continued to advocate for Ripple and XRP, providing technical insights and defending the company's vision.
