TON Blockchain Back in Action After Latest DOGS-Related Glitch

The Open Network (TON) has successfully resumed operations after experiencing its second major outage in just 36 hours. The network, which is closely linked with Telegram, faced significant disruptions due to overwhelming activity following the launch of a new memecoin called Dogs (DOGS). The TON Community officially announced the network's return to full functionality around 1:00 am UTC on August 29, much to the relief of users worldwide.

TON Outage

The first outage occurred on August 27 at approximately 11:00 pm UTC, halting block production for about six hours. TON returned to normal operations by 5:30 am UTC on August 28, only to face another disruption later that same day. The second outage struck at 7:17 pm UTC on August 28 and lasted just over six hours, adding up to more than 12 hours of downtime over two days. 

TON is Now Back

The TON network is now fully operational, as confirmed by the TON Community in their official Telegram group. Users were informed that deposits and withdrawals to TON wallets would be processed over the coming hours and days, signaling a return to stability. Despite the two setbacks, the native Toncoin (TON) token saw an 8% price increase following the news, indicating renewed confidence in the network’s recovery.

How DOGS Token Has Led to Outage

Launched in July 2024, Dogs is a memecoin on the TON blockchain, dubbed the “most Telegram-native memecoin.” Inspired by Spotty, a mascot of Telegram’s Pavel Durov who was arrested in France on August 24—the token has caused significant congestion on TON. The Dogs Community has quickly grown to 17 million Telegram subscribers and 3.9 million X followers, with major exchange listings following Durov’s arrest.

While the TON network has successfully recovered from its recent outages, the events have highlighted the challenges of scaling in the face of sudden and high demand. The DOGS token,  exposed vulnerabilities that TON must address to ensure future stability.
