In the latest crypto news today, Grayscale Investments CEO Peter Mintzberg has filed a notice with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to sell part of his holdings in the Grayscale $XRP Trust ETF.
The $XRP ETF involves 2,611 of XRP, valued at roughly $53,394.95, according to a Form 144 filing dated July 28.
According to a post shared by Wu Blockchain on X, citing BeInCrypto, the SEC filing shows Peter Mintzberg intends to sell 2,611 GXRP shares, while GXRP's outstanding have declined by about 51% over the past six months.

The $XRP ETF sale has drawn attention because it comes as the Grayscale XRP Trust ETF continues to see declining outstanding.
According to a Form 144 filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Grayscale Investments CEO Peter Mintzberg intends to sell 2,611 assets shares of the GXRP Trust ETF (GXRP), valued at approximately $53,394.
The filing states that the shares were acquired through private transactions in October 2024 and represents only an intention to sell, not confirmation that the transaction has been completed
Mintzberg filed the notice through broker Cantor Fitzgerald, listing the at $20.45 per share on NYSE Arca. A Form 144 only states an intention to sell. It does not confirm that the transaction has been completed.
Shares were acquired on October 3, 2024, through a private, cash-settled purchase directly from the trust.
The purchase happened before GXRP became a listed spot XRP.
Mintzberg reported no prior sales of the issuer's securities in the previous three months.
He remains an officer of the sponsor and continues to hold about 2.84 million shares after the sale.
The XRP Sale follows similar moves by two other Grayscale insiders. Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group, and Craig Salm, Grayscale's chief legal officer, both filed notices in January 2026 to sell their pre-listing GXRP.
Filer | Filing Date | Price per Share |
Craig Salm | Jan 23, 2026 | ~$37 |
Barry Silbert | Jan 26, 2026 | ~$37 |
Peter Mintzberg | Jul 28, 2026 | $20.45 |
Price per share for each filing is calculated from the SEC Form 144 by dividing the reported aggregate market value by the number of shares.
The bigger signal in this Grayscale CEO XRP Sale story is GXRP's shrinking share count, not the sale itself.
January 2026 filings listed 5,790,100 assets outstanding
The July filing lists 2,840,100 assets outstanding
That is a drop of about 2.95 million assets, or roughly 51%, in six months
Share counts in fall when redemptions outpace new share creation. None of the three filings explains the cause, and Grayscale has not issued a public statement on the decline.
GXRP now holds approximately $58 million in assets under management. U.S. spot $XRP ETFs collectively held about $971.6 million in net assets as of July 28, putting GXRP at roughly 6% of that category.
Competition from newer spot $XRP ETFs has grown steadily since GXRP's public listing, making this XRP ETF Sale one of the notable stories in crypto news.
