What is Audius (AUDIO)

Audius is a decentralized music streaming platform built on blockchain technology, designed to create a more equitable music industry by removing intermediaries between artists and their audiences. Launched in 2019, Audius combines elements of social media, music marketplace, and decentralized streaming service into a platform governed by artists and fans through its native AUDIO token.

HOW AUDIUS WORKS

Artists upload music directly to the Audius network, which is stored on a decentralized network of content nodes run by node operators. Tracks are streamed to users through discovery nodes that index and serve content. No central company controls the storage or delivery of music. Artists retain full rights to their content and can set their own terms for sharing.

THE AUDIO TOKEN

AUDIO serves three functions in the ecosystem Staking by content nodes and artists (nodes must stake AUDIO to participate, aligning incentives for good behavior); Governance (AUDIO holders vote on protocol upgrades and platform policies, giving artists and fans direct control); Artist Badges (artists can lock AUDIO to unlock exclusive features like special fan tokens, badges, and enhanced discoverability).

Audius attracted partnerships with TikTok (direct integration for sharing tracks), major artists including deadmau5, Rezz, and Nas who joined early as supported artists, and has grown to over 7 million monthly active users.

Blockchain
