What is Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)

Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA) is an investment strategy where a fixed amount of money is invested in a cryptocurrency at regular, predetermined intervals — regardless of the current price. Rather than attempting to time the market by making a single large purchase at the "right" time, DCA spreads purchases over time, automatically buying more units when prices are low and fewer when prices are high. THE MATHEMATICS OF DCA Imagine you invest ₹10,000 in Bitcoin monthly for 4 months: Month 1: BTC at ₹40L → buy 0.025 BTC. Month 2: BTC at ₹30L → buy 0.033 BTC. Month 3: BTC at ₹25L → buy 0.040 BTC. Month 4: BTC at ₹35L → buy 0.029 BTC. Total invested: ₹40,000. Total BTC: 0.127. Average cost: ₹31.5L per BTC. Current price: ₹35L. Profit: 11%. If you had invested ₹40,000 at Month 1 price (₹40L), you would be at a loss. DCA reduced the average purchase price by spreading buys across the dip. WHY DCA WORKS PSYCHOLOGICALLY Even sophisticated investors struggle to time markets. DCA removes the emotional burden of deciding when to buy: No FOMO (fear of missing out) during rallies — you're buying anyway. No panic selling during dips — you're still buying. Removes decision fatigue and emotional trading. Creates disciplined savings habit. Research consistently shows most investors who try to time the market underperform consistent DCA investors.
