Larger Supply: Maximum supply of 84 million LTC versus Bitcoin's 21 million.
Scrypt Mining Algorithm: Bitcoin uses SHA-256; Litecoin uses Scrypt originally designed to be memory-intensive and resistant to ASIC mining. However, Scrypt ASICs were eventually developed, and Litecoin mining is now also ASIC-dominated.
Same Halving Schedule: Block rewards halve every 840,000 blocks (approximately every 4 years), mirroring Bitcoin's supply mechanics.

LITECOIN'S DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Litecoin has served as a testing ground for Bitcoin improvements. SegWit (Segregated Witness) was activated on Litecoin in May 2017 months before Bitcoin's SegWit activation in August 2017 allowing developers to observe its effects on a live network. Lightning Network was similarly tested on Litecoin before Bitcoin deployment. MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB) launched on Litecoin in May 2022, adding optional privacy features using the MimbleWimble cryptographic protocol.
