What is Rarible (RARI)

Rarible is a multi-chain NFT marketplace and protocol that allows creators to mint, buy, and sell non-fungible tokens across multiple blockchain networks. Founded in 2020 by Alexei Falin and Alex Salnikov, Rarible distinguished itself from competitors by introducing RARI a governance token distributed to active platform users  making it one of the first community-owned NFT marketplaces.

RARIBLE'S MULTI-CHAIN SUPPORT

Unlike early NFT platforms limited to Ethereum, Rarible supports NFT creation and trading across multiple chains: Ethereum (highest-value art and collectibles), Flow (NBA Top Shot creator Dapper Labs' chain), Tezos (energy-efficient, popular with digital artists), Solana, and Polygon (low-fee NFT gaming and utility assets). This multi-chain approach allows creators to choose the chain best suited to their project's needs  balancing fees, audience, and ecosystem.

THE RARI GOVERNANCE TOKEN

RARI was one of crypto's first "governance as reward" experiments: Active traders and creators on Rarible earned RARI token distributions based on platform activity. RARI holders can vote on platform governance decisions  fee structures, new feature priorities, protocol treasury allocation. The retroactive distribution rewarded early adopters and created a community ownership model that influenced subsequent DeFi and NFT projects.

RARI DAO

Rarible transitioned governance to the Rarible DAO  a community-controlled entity that manages the protocol treasury and strategic direction. This governance structure puts community members in charge of the platform's evolution rather than a centralised company making all decisions unilaterally.

RARIBLE PROTOCOL: B2B INFRASTRUCTURE

Beyond the consumer marketplace, Rarible offers its underlying NFT protocol as white-label infrastructure for other applications  enabling businesses to build their own NFT marketplaces using Rarible's smart contracts and aggregation technology. This B2B pivot has expanded Rarible's role in the ecosystem beyond direct marketplace competition with OpenSea and Blur.
