Digital asset treasury companies are listed firms that hold crypto on their balance sheets as a core strategy.
Bitmine Immersion Technologies is the largest Ethereum-focused example, and its latest holdings update shows how the model works in practice. The company released the figures on October 19, 2026, using prices from October 18. This report covers how the structure works, what Bitmine says it holds, and where the risks sit.
In simple terms, digital asset treasury companies swap part of their cash for a crypto asset and keep it. Shareholders then gain indirect exposure to that coin through the stock. Many such firms raise money by selling new shares to investors.
A few terms help here. Market value is the price of one coin multiplied by the number of coins held. Staking means locking coins on a network to +help confirm transactions in return for rewards. A validator is a computer that does that. New readers can find more definitions in a crypto terms glossary.
The structure ties results closely to price. When the coin falls, the value of the holdings falls with it. The company release does not state how Bitmine shares trade against the value of its holdings, so that comparison is outside this report.
Bitmine describes itself as a blockchain infrastructure company with staking, bitcoin mining, and digital asset management activities. Its press release says the firm has bought ETH every week since it began the Ethereum treasury strategy on June 30, 2025. It adds that 12,535 ETH was bought in the latest week.
Item | Reported figure |
ETH held | 6,041,481 |
ETH price used | $2,365 |
Share of ETH supply | 4.9% of 122.1 million |
Staked ETH | 5,067,309 |
Cash and marketable securities | $582 million |
Total holdings reported | $15.1 billion |
All figures are company claims as of October 18, 2026. The $15.1 billion total also counts 215 BTC and two stakes in other businesses that Bitmine calls moonshots. These are a $180 million stake in Beast Industries and a $74 million stake in Eightco. Readers who follow the bitcoin side can check Bitcoin market updates.
Bitmine has set a goal of owning 5% of all ETH, which it calls the Alchemy of 5%. It says it is 99% of the way there after 15 months. The company also says it joined the Russell 1000 index on June 26, 2026, and ranks second among all crypto treasuries, behind a bitcoin-focused firm. That ranking rests on the company’s own comparison.
Holding a coin earns nothing by itself. Staking can change that. Bitmine says 5,067,309 ETH, about 84% of its holdings, is staked and worth roughly $12 billion at the price used. Weekly price moves are tracked in Ethereum news coverage.
Part of the staking runs through MAVAN, short for Made in America Validator Network. Bitmine built the platform first for its own coins. The release says it now also serves institutional investors, custodians, and ecosystem partners.
The company projects $369 million in yearly staking rewards if all its ETH were staked, using a 2.58% seven-day yield. It puts the current projection at $309 million, based on 5.1 million staked ETH. Both numbers are forecasts, and the real yield can change from week to week.
Price risk comes first. The $15.1 billion total moves with the ETH price, and the release itself lists extreme volatility as a risk factor. A lower price cuts the headline value even if the number of coins keeps rising.
Staking adds technical risk. The company’s own risk list names network failures, slashing events, and security breaches. Slashing is a penalty that can remove part of a validator’s staked coins after rule violations.
Concentration is another concern.Like many digital asset treasury companies, a firm holding 4.9% of the ETH supply is tied closely to one asset and one network. Exchanges, custodians, and staking partners add counterparty risk. Rewards can also fall short of projections if ETH is not fully staked. Broader market moves appear in daily crypto news.
Bitmine management calls the GENIUS Act and the SEC’s Project Crypto major shifts for finance. That is a company view. The GENIUS Act, signed in July 2025, sets a framework for payment stablecoins, per the GENIUS Act bill record. It does not directly regulate digital asset treasury companies.
The SEC outlined Project Crypto on July 31, 2025, as an effort to modernize securities rules for blockchain markets. Details sit on the SEC Project Crypto page. Final rules for treasury firms are not part of that page.
The SEC’s investor education office also warns that the risk of loss in crypto asset securities remains significant. Its SEC investor alert urges caution before any such investment.
Bitmine’s chairman, quoted in the October 19 release, links the recent market drop to weaker risk appetite. He points to worries about AI funding, war activity involving the United States and Iran, midterm elections, and rising bond yields. In his view, selloffs in chip stocks spilled into crypto because investors in the United States, Korea, and Taiwan hold both.
The chairman also says price drops with strong fundamentals have been attractive setups in the past, and he expects a larger crypto bull market. These are opinions and forward-looking statements from a company executive, not independent analysis. No outside analyst commentary was supplied
