Ethereum news today mixes Wall Street filings, DeFi design, and large on-chain moves. VanEck asked the SEC to withdraw its Lido staked ETH filing. Uniswap launched a new fee tool, and a whale kept swapping Bitcoin for ETH.
The downfall is driven by inflation, not by the blockchain. A hotter-than-expected US CPI report on October 14 pushed the Ethereum price today down 5.92% to $2,362.31, per CoinGecko data on October 15, 2026, a bigger drop than Bitcoin.
VanEck: Requested withdrawal of its Lido Staked Ethereum ETF S-1
Uniswap: VolatilePair Hook is live with ETH/USDC
Whale: 43,275 tokens bought over four days.
Suspected Arthur Hayes wallet: 8,012 tokens moved
Vitalik Buterin: zkEVM work should now focus on security
Upbit: Listed the PUFFER/KRW pair
This VanEck Ethereum update comes from a Form RW letter dated October 14, 2026. VanEck Digital Assets, the sponsor, asked the SEC to consent to withdrawing the Registration Statement on Form S-1 for the VanEck Lido Staked Ethereum ETF. The filing was first submitted on October 16, 2025.
The sponsor said it no longer plans to proceed with the share offering. The filing never became effective, and no shares were issued or sold. This was a voluntary withdrawal by VanEck, not an SEC rejection. It also does not mean every staked fund plan has ended.

Uniswap announced that VolatilePair Hook is live on the Ethereum Mainnet, starting with ETH/USDC. Instead of one fixed fee, it sets separate fees for buyers and sellers and recalculates them on every swap.
When the coin price rises, the buy fee goes up and the sell fee goes down. When the price falls, the pattern flips. After a big move, trades that push the price back toward balance pay a temporary extra fee.
Uniswap says volatile pairs did more than $500 billion in volume on its platform this year. With a static fee, liquidity providers (LPs) absorb moves the fee does not cover. The hook aims to reduce those losses. It does not remove them, and LP returns are not guaranteed. This is a useful piece of Ethereum update news because it targets a real cost for LPs. LPs can add liquidity now through the Uniswap web app.

On-chain analyst Ember tracked a whale or institution that keeps converting BTC into ETH. In the last 24 hours, it sold 237.8 BTC for about 19.7 million USDC and bought 7,929 ETH.
Over four days, it has sold 1,312.1 BTC for about 109.1 million USDC and bought 43,275 ETH. The average buy price is about $2,521, which leaves an unrealized loss of about $4.15 million, per Ember.
These trades show a large shift from Bitcoin into ETH. They do not prove a wider market trend. They also do not tell us where the price goes next.

Onchain Lens reported that a wallet suspected to belong to BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes moved about 8,012 ETH, worth around $19.41 million, to a new address. The identity link is a suspicion, not a confirmed fact.
A transfer alone does not show intent. The coin could be sold, sent to an exchange, or simply moved for storage. Readers should wait for further on-chain activity before concluding.

In this Vitalik Buterin ETH update, he congratulated the ZKsync Airbender team and said the battle for proof speed is “definitively won.” He wants zkEVM teams to focus on formal verification in three areas:
The arithmetization must match the Ethereum specification.
Prover cost must have a hard limit per unit of block gas.
The proof system itself must be secure.
For anyone following Vitalik Ethereum news, this signals that the next phase of the Ethereum network roadmap is about trust, not just speed. It is not a launch date for the latest ETH upgrade.

Upbit, South Korea’s largest exchange, announced a PUFFER Korean won pair. PUFFER is the governance token of Puffer Finance, an ETH liquid restaking protocol built on EigenLayer that also develops UniFi Rollup.
The token is used for governance, incentives, and ecosystem decisions. The report gave no token price or listing time, so check Upbit’s notice for those details. A listing like this does not directly change the ETH price.

The ETH coin price is $2,359.34, down 5.9% on October 15, 2026. Market cap is near $286 billion, and trading volume is $17.7 billion. The coin fell harder than Bitcoin, which points to weaker relative strength on the day. No single headline explains the drop.

Ethereum news today is driven by US inflation, not by the blockchain. A hotter than expected US CPI report on October 14 pushed the price today down 5.92% to $2,362.31, per CoinMarketCap data on October 15, 2026, a bigger drop than Bitcoin.
Headline CPI rose 3.7% from a year earlier against 3.6% expected, and core CPI came in at 2.6% against 2.5% expected, so the surprise was not only about oil. That raised the odds of tighter Fed policy.
CME FedWatch now shows a 27.1% chance of a 25 basis point hike at the October 28 meeting, up from 22.1% a day earlier, though other readings differ by source and time.
Because the coin pays no yield, higher bond returns make it less attractive. Leverage added to the drop: CoinGlass shows $957.45 million in liquidations, with 91.7% of them long positions. The source data does not name one cause for falling harder than Bitcoin, so that part is context, not a confirmed reason.
For this price update, the key dates to watch are the Fed rate cut decision on October 28, the US midterm elections on November 3, and any Treasury or oil supply moves that improve liquidity. This is not an Ethereum news prediction, only a list of events to follow.
Today’s update centers on VanEck’s withdrawn filing, Uniswap’s new fee model, large wallet moves, and the zkEVM security debate. This is not a news prediction. Watch for the SEC’s response to the withdrawal, LP results on Uniswap, and further on-chain moves.
