The Liquid Network recovery took another step on October 28, 2026. A test transaction of 2.5 BTC reached the Liquid Federation wallet, cutting the reserve shortfall to 600 $BTC.

Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3, said the remaining 600 $BTC will move to the wallet in the coming days. He added that all network operations are continuing normally.
A separate Liquid Network update from the Federation says $BTC to LBTC swaps returned last week as part of a staged recovery. That makes the swap route the first user-facing sign of progress.
Public wallet data on October 28 showed about 3,629 BTC in federation holdings. Roughly 4,249 LBTC was in circulation at the time. That implies backing of about 85.9%.

The transfer itself was small. Earlier in October, the gap stood near 602 BTC, so the test moved it by only a fraction. The bigger step is the 600 BTC Mow expects to arrive next. For now, that is a stated plan, not a completed transfer.
The swap route is the practical fix for now. Users can swap BTC on Bitcoin and LBTC on Liquid at 1:1 through Aqua, Bull Bitcoin and SideSwap. Together, these providers handled 99% of peg-out volume before the incident.

Normal Federation peg-outs remain under enhanced operational controls while security hardening continues. So $BTC LBTC swap restoration covers most user demand on the Liquid Bitcoin network, but not the Federation’s own redemption path.
The Federation says progress toward full 1:1 backing can be followed through the Liquid Network Proof of Reserves, which publishes reserve data openly.
The incident began on September 6, 2026. A flaw in the Elements software let an attacker pull about 4,000 BTC out through the redemption route.
Around 3,400 $BTC was later returned, which left the current gap. Block production and transactions resumed on September 10.
The Federation now says an independent Liquid Network security audit is nearing completion. No final findings have been published yet. The audit matters because normal peg-outs stay under tighter controls until security work wraps up.
The data suggests the Liquid Network recovery is close, but not done. About 600 $BTC is still needed for full LBTC Bitcoin backing, and 85.9% coverage leaves little margin for delay.
The main uncertainty remains timing. “The coming days” is not a fixed date. Audit results are another open item, and until they are public, peg-out security stays unverified. Swap providers also depend on available liquidity, which can limit trade size.
If the 600 $BTC arrives and the audit closes cleanly, LBTC peg restoration could move forward. If either slips, direct peg-outs would likely stay paused.
The scale is also worth noting. A reserve near 3,629 BTC is small next to corporate Bitcoin treasuries, yet the speed of this repair shows how sidechain trust is tested in public.
This Liquid Network crypto news points to progress rather than completion. The gap is smaller, swaps work again and the audit is close. Bitcoin peg-out recovery still depends on the last 600 $BTC.
Among today’s crypto news today stories, the case stands out for its open reserve data and its staged approach, and it adds a useful data point to cryptocurrency news on Bitcoin infrastructure.
