Binance US CFTC License: US Plans To File For CFTC License

The Binance US CFTC License application marks the exchange's latest push into regulated event trading.

According to Bloomberg, US plans to apply for a CFTC in August as it looks to enter the regulated prediction markets sector.

The Block also reported that US intends to file for the license in August as part of its plan to launch a regulated prediction market platform.

Crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett first reported the development, with WuBlockchain later highlighting that the application is part of US's broader business restart strategy, including lower trading fees, prediction markets, and perpetual contracts.

Here's what stands out:

  • Binance US will apply for a Designated Contract Market license next month

  • Its prediction market platform launch depends on getting that approval first

  • The US CFTC filing fits into a broader comeback strategy the exchange has been building for 2026.

  • Gregory made the announcement in front of industry peers at Rare Evo

  • Perpetual contracts are also on the table, alongside the existing spot business

So what does a DCM actually allow? It lets a platform list futures, options, and event contracts under federal oversight.

Getting there isn't simple, though. Applicants have to meet 23 core principles under the Commodity Exchange Act, covering things like market surveillance, financial strength, and system safety.

That table tells you a lot about the competitive landscape.

Binance US would be going up against Kalshi and Polymarket US directly, both of which already lead the event-trading space. Whether this reshapes the sector depends entirely on how the review goes.

And approval is far from guaranteed. The CFTC hasn't commented on any of this, and reviews for filings like this one usually stretch across several months. There's no confirmed timeline yet for when actual trading might begin, even if the license comes through.

US has been rebuilding its US footprint since a 2023 settlement tied to anti-money laundering issues. The US license filing is one more step in that process.

A perpetual contract launch is also expected later this year, adding another layer to the exchange's expansion plans.
