The BNB Smart Chain Fermi Upgrade is now live and it marks a big moment for network. The hard fork was activated at 02:30 UTC after validators upgraded their nodes to version 1.6.4. With this update, block times were reduced from 0.75 seconds to about 0.45 seconds. That is nearly 40% faster than before.
This makes the blockchain one of the fastest Ethereum-compatible networks in the market. The upgrade was smooth, and no major issues were reported. In fact, the official team confirmed that all mainnet nodes are now running via v1.6.4 and that the network was responding much better with the growth in activity.

It is concentrated on real-world performance. It is not just about being faster; it is also about keeping stable while running at a faster pace.
With a shorter block time,
Transactions are included in blocks faster
Confirmation times are shortened
The dApps feel smoother and more responsive.
For users it means: faster swaps, quicker transfers, and an overall better wallet experience.
Developers will experience lower latency and hence better performance of DeFi, gaming, and payment apps.
When the number of blocks produced goes up, the network requires more stringent finality conditions. This is the reason the BEP-590, is incorporated.
Fast finality enables users to consider transactions as finalized in approximately a second. This has major implications on:
High frequency trading
DeFi Protocols
Payment methods
It eliminates uncertainties by making the chain more dependable, even during peak hours.
When blocks are produced more often, the network needs stronger finality rules. That is why the Fermi Upgrade includes BEP-590.
Just days before this Fermi Hard Fork Upgrade, it also activated the opBNB mainnet hardfork. It reduced block times from 500 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, making it twice as fast.
This shows a clear pattern:
Fermi improves BNB Smart Chain (Layer 1)
opBNB improves scalability on Layer 2
Together, they prove that the network is pushing speed across its entire ecosystem.
Nina Rong, Executive Director of Growth at BNB Chain, shared a powerful insight. She said that if this blockchain processes the same number of transactions in 2026 as it did in 2025, the the recent updates could save over 1.24 billion seconds in block time. That equals nearly 40 years of time saved.
CZ also reposted the update with a simple message: “Continue to build!”
This shows strong confidence from leadership.
Price is showing strength. The token rose about 3% in the last 24 hours now trading at $935 as per the CoinMarketCap

Supported by:
The Fermi hard fork update
Positive crypto market sentiment
Bitcoin breaking above $95,000
This places it among the strong performers in today’s crypto news cycle.
It adds a bullish foundation, but price still depends on the market.
Bullish case:
If it holds above the $900–$905 support zone, traders may look toward $928 first. A breakout above that level could open the path toward $950 in the short term.
Bearish case:
If market weakness returns, it may retest the $890 area before continuing its trend.
Overall, faster network performance strengthens long-term confidence in BNB.
The BNB Smart Chain Fermi Upgrade is not merely a technical upgrade. This enhances the daily experience of the network. Faster blocks and the finality of the block on the BNB Smart Chain became significantly stronger.
