Crypto Shutdown News: LayerZero and Dango Shutdowns

crypto shutdown news LayerZero chain support ends while Dango shuts down

Why LayerZero and Dango Crypto Shutdown News Matters to Users

This week brought two separate pieces of crypto shutdown news in DeFi. LayerZero is dropping offchain support for five low-activity chains, and DeFi trading platform Dango is shutting down entirely. Here is what happened in both, verified from official sources.

LayerZero Winds Down Support for Five Chains

LayerZero confirmed in an official blog post that it is winding down offchain support for a group of chains with minimal activity. Once this takes effect, LayerZero's DVN and Executor services will no longer work on these networks.

Stargate's v2 protocol will also stop supporting these chains. That means Stargate Hydra will no longer work on them either.

What LayerZero and Stargate Users Should Do

Stargate users holding Hydra assets, including USDC.e, wETH, or Hydra USDT, on any of these five chains need to redeem or bridge them out soon. LayerZero recommends moving funds to chains with deeper liquidity, such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, or BSC. Waiting too long carries real risk. Once support is fully removed, users could lose access to funds left behind.

Dango Project Is Shutting Down

Separately, DeFi trading platform announced it is winding down completely. The team said it found no viable path to lasting commercial success, despite its best efforts. Dango stressed that user funds remain safe and said withdrawal limits will lift shortly.

Dango's Shutdown Timeline

  • July 29, 2026, 12:00 UTC: Trading halts. Open positions close at Oracle's price. DLP vault deposits unlock, with all funds returned as USDC to spot accounts.

  • August 13, 2026, 12:00 UTC: The Dango L1 blockchain stops running entirely. Any deposits not withdrawn by then get refunded to their original deposit addresses on Ethereum.

What Dango Users Should Do

Dango is urging users to close positions and withdraw funds as soon as possible, warning that liquidity is expected to be thin and slippage could be a factor. Anyone who leaves funds untouched past August 13 will still get them back, but only as a refund to their Ethereum deposit address, not through the platform itself.

Market Impact

Neither story has hit token markets hard so far. LayerZero's own token, ZRO, is not directly affected since this move only touches offchain infrastructure for a handful of low-traffic chains. Dango's activity was already modest going in.

Per DefiLlama data, Dango was running with around $1.64 million in open interest and roughly $500,000 in annualized revenue, with fees down around 82% in the week leading up to the shutdown announcement. This kind of crypto shutdown news tends to hit affected users directly far more than it moves broader markets.

Conclusion

Both LayerZero's chain cuts and Dango's full shutdown point to the same lesson in this crypto shutdown news cycle: low-activity chains and projects get pruned quickly once the numbers stop working. Users on either platform have clear deadlines ahead of them, and acting early is the safest way to avoid losing access to funds.
