Ethereum News: Mystery Whale Moves $174M ETH to Exchanges

Ethereum News Today: Tom Lee Sees ETH FOMO as BitMine Adds 20000 ETH

Ethereum news today is dominated by a familiar tug-of-war: large holders quietly moving coins toward exchanges while institutional buyers keep stacking.

On September 1, 2026, trackers flagged a mystery whale shifting toward exchanges, Justin Sun completing a Lido redemption, and a BitMine-linked wallet adding coins. Fundstrat's Tom Lee argues that ETHs is primed for a Q4 FOMO run if the Fed holds rates steady heading into its September 15 decision.

On 1 September 2026 at 8:30 AM UTC, Ethereum price today holds near $2451,09 with a rise of 0.6% in the last 24 Hours.

Ethereum News Today: Mysterious Whale Moves $174M ETH to Exchanges

According to Lookonchain, an unidentified wallet gathered 167,855 tokens, worth roughly $408 million, from several addresses before routing portions to exchanges.

Over the past two days, the address deposited 70,739 tokens, about $174 million, across multiple venues, and still holds 97,115 tokens, worth close to $237 million. Deposits this size are often read as an early sell signal, though they don't guarantee a market dump.

Why the $174M Ethereum Whale Transfer Matters for ETH Price

Exchange inflows raise available supply on order books, which can pressure price if matched by weak demand. But deposits alone aren't proof of a sale.

Some whales stage funds for over-the-counter deals or derivatives collateral. With 97,115 coins still outside exchanges, watch for further transfers rather than reacting to this single data point.

Justin Sun Redeems 5,000 ETH From Lido as 3,500 ETH Reaches Poloniex

Monitoring account ai_9684xtpa reported that Justin Sun completed a redemption of 5,000 coin from Lido. Of that total, 3,500 coin moved to Poloniex and then to a hot wallet, purpose undisclosed, while the remaining 1,500 coin went into Morpho, a lending protocol. Sun still holds more than 243,000 coins on-chain, valued above $600 million, keeping him among the largest individual holders on record.

BitMine Adds Another 20,000 ETH as Holdings Near 5.9 Million

Onchain Lens flagged a wallet believed to be tied to BitMine receiving 20,000 token from FalconX, worth about $49.42 million. BitMine's own disclosure shows it held roughly 5.901 million Ethereum as of August 30, close to 4.9% of the total supply.

Lookonchain also noted a separate reported purchase of 51,000 token ($126M) from FalconX and BitGo, pointing to continued institutional appetite even as other whale wallets offload coins.

Tom Lee Sees ETH as the Biggest Crypto FOMO Trade Into Year-End

Fundstrat's Tom Lee told CNBC that crypto, ETH in particular, could be the standout FOMO trade of September into year-end if the Fed avoids a rate hike. He pointed to ETH's strong Q3 as a base for further institutional buying in Q4, framing Bitcoin's recent rally as an early phase of a broader move, and called the Fed meeting a potential catalyst amid widespread bearish September sentiment.

Ethereum News Timeline: From Whale Deposits to Q4 FOMO

  • Aug 30: BitMine discloses ~5.901M tokens held (4.9% of supply)

  • Sept 1: BitMine-linked wallet receives 20,000 tokens from FalconX

  • Sept 1: Justin Sun's Lido redemption completes, split between Poloniex and Morpho

  • Sept 1: Mystery whale's two-day exchange deposits reach 70,739 tokens

  • Sept 15: Federal Reserve decision seen as a potential trigger for Lee's FOMO thesis

What's Next for Ethereum Price as Whales and Institutions Diverge?

Traders should track whether the whale's remaining 97,115 tokens also move to exchanges, how BitMine's accumulation pace evolves, and how Ethereum ETF flows respond ahead of the Fed meeting.

Exchange inflows and price-volume trends around that date will likely determine whether these deposits turn into real selling pressure or get absorbed by institutional demand.

Conclusion

Ethereum news today paints a market pulled in two directions: large wallets shifting coins toward exchanges even as BitMine keeps buying and Tom Lee stays bullish into Q4. Whether the whale's remaining holdings hit the market, and how the Fed decision lands, are likely the next catalysts.
