He described on his official Telegram Group the incident as a targeted move by what he called a "takedown extortionist" and explained how the alleged attack worked. 
An old message inside an active group chat got edited after the fact.
AI-altered illegal content was slipped into that edit.
Because the message had already been posted, ordinary members never noticed anything changed, so nobody flagged it.
Apple caught it through its own internal review rather than a user report.
This isn't a one-off, he argues. It fits a pattern he's seen before. These actors run automated accounts that plant illegal material inside public groups, then report it to Apple directly, hoping to force a removal.
The endgame? Ransom. Pay up, or the attacker tries to get your community, or your app, taken down entirely.
The Real Sticking Point: Sequence
What seems to bother Durov most isn't the takedown itself. It's that Apple acted before reaching out to TG at all.
People who'd already installed the app kept using it without interruption. New downloads, though, were blocked for that stretch.
