XRP News Today: Banks Add Exposure as Activity Surges

It is trading near $1 despite rising XRPL activity and newly disclosed ETF positions at Canadian financial institutions. That is the honest summary of XRP news today

Per CoinMarketCap, $XRP trades near $1.01, down 3.66 percent over the past week and 0.62 percent in the last 24 hours, with a market cap of $63.38 billion.

At the same time, two very different signals, growing bank exposure and a sharp jump in network activity, are both pointing the other way.

Canadian Banks Keep Adding $XRP Exposure

Regulatory portfolio disclosures show that Canadian financial institutions have held XRP-linked ETF positions even as XRP's price slipped.

Bank of Montreal has reported holdings in XRP-linked ETFs in its regulatory portfolio disclosures, although the filing period and exact holdings should be verified against the latest SEC filing.

That disclosure follows a similar filing from National Bank of Canada, which reported 3,848 shares of the Bitwise $XRP ETF. Both banks gained their exposure through regulated ETF products rather than holding $XRP directly.XRP BSCN source

XRP Ledger Activity Nearly Doubles as Address Count Surges

Activity on the XRPL increased sharply during the period, although higher ledger activity does not necessarily mean equivalent growth in XRP's investment demand.

  • Active addresses rose from 23,642 on August 1 to 43,543, an 84.18% jump in just days, per Santiment data shared by Ali Charts

  • $XRP processed more than 2.8 million transactions on August 5

  • That is an 86% increase week over week, and over 81% above the 30-day average

Santiment's active-address metric measures network addresses interacting during the period; it should not be interpreted as a count of individual users.

Why Is XRP Price Down This Week?

Nothing in the current data or filings points to one clear trigger. What stands out instead is the disconnect: XRP news today shows rising bank participation and a near-doubling of network activity, yet XRP price still moved lower on both the daily and weekly charts.

Volume also fell alongside price, down nearly 26 percent in 24 hours, which points to a lighter-volume pullback rather than a rush of selling.

What Could $XRP Price Do Next?

Watch whether more institutions follow the Bank of Montreal and National Bank of Canada with new ETF disclosures and whether this week's spike in active addresses and transactions holds. Neither outcome is confirmed yet.

CoinGabbar Analysis: The gap between XRP news today and its price action is the real story here. Two Canadian banks adding regulated XRP exposure, plus a near-doubling of active addresses and transactions, are signals typically read as bullish over time.

That they have not yet moved price suggests the market is still waiting to see if this activity surge holds.
