XRP News Today: Are These 3 Headlines Behind the Red Price?

XRP is trading at $1.39, down 0.87% over the past 24 hours, with its market cap slipping to $87.31 billion.

That alone isn't unusual for a volatile asset. What is unusual is everything happening around it this week.

A major ledger upgrade vote is due in three days, Ethereum just floated a plan that could bring Ripple's stablecoin into its own fee system, and a wallet app tied to the XRP ecosystem was just drained of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This edition of XRP News Today walks through all three and asks whether any of them explain the red candles on the chart.

XRP's Rocky Day: What the Chart Is Actually Showing

Looking at the 24-hour chart, XRP spent most of the day underwater, with only two short green spikes breaking up a mostly red pattern. Here's the snapshot as of today.

That kind of choppy, red-dominant pattern usually points to sellers being slightly more aggressive than buyers throughout the day, rather than one single shock event.

But three separate stories broke around the same window, and each one is worth understanding on its own before deciding what, if anything, moved the price.

The XRP Ledger's September 11 Upgrade Is Almost Here

The XRP Ledger's core software, version 3.3.0, was officially released by the XRPL Foundation's

It bundles several new amendments, including BatchV1_1, ConfidentialTransfer, DynamicMPT, PermissionDelegationV1_1, Sponsor, and a fix-focused amendment called fixCleanup3_3_0. That last one is the one to watch.

On the XRP Ledger, new rules only go live once enough validators vote to support them.

As of September 6, on-chain voting data tracked by XRPSCAN's amendment dashboard showed fixCleanup3_3_0 sitting at roughly 82.86% support from 29 of 35 validators, just above the 80% threshold the network needs to activate a change.

If that support holds, the fixes are expected to switch on September 11.

In plain terms, this bundle:

  • Tightens freeze checks across the Vault, AMM, and Loan Broker features

  • Fixes an issue where AMM liquidity could be miscounted in permissioned order books

  • Cleans up how the ledger handles account deletion tied to certain object types

  • Improves precision and rounding for Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol

None of this changes how XRP works for a typical holder, but it strengthens the plumbing behind lending, trading, vaults, and AMMs, the parts of the ledger built for more serious financial activity.

Ethereum May Soon Let Users Pay Gas With Ripple's RLUSD

Separately, a roadmap update circulating this week points to Ethereum developers exploring a protocol-level shift that would let users settle transaction fees using regulated stablecoins instead of ETH itself.

The mechanism reportedly relies on account abstraction and native paymaster logic, the same technical foundation already used by projects like Circle's USDC paymaster, extended to also accept $USDT and $RLUSD for gas settlement.

Independent reporting on Ethereum's broader account-abstraction roadmap notes that a related proposal, EIP-8141 "Frame Transactions," has been locked into the upcoming Hegóta upgrade, with mainnet activation targeted for 2027.

That's the same infrastructure that would need to exist before stablecoin-denominated gas becomes a reality across Ethereum.

If RLUSD is genuinely included in that mix, it would mark a meaningful expansion of the stablecoin's use case beyond payments and trading.

The XRP Healthcare Wallet Hack That Rattled the Ecosystem

The most serious story this week isn't about price or protocol votes. It's a security incident.

According to a detailed on-chain investigation, attackers drained 4,011 wallets belonging to users of the XRPH Wallet app on September 3, sweeping out roughly 267,664 XRP along with millions of XRPH and XRPHAI tokens in just over three hours.

The stolen funds were pushed through NEAR Intents, converted to ETH on Ethereum, and finally swapped into 445,198 DAI sitting in a single wallet that hasn't moved since.

XRP Healthcare has since confirmed the incident publicly and said it is tracing the funds with exchanges and law enforcement, per its own statements shared on X and further detailed in an independent forensic breakdown

That breakdown found the app's staking feature had, at one point, sent users' wallet seeds directly to the company's server, exposing far more of the app's user base than just active stakers.

So, Is the Hack Behind the Red Candle?

Here's the honest answer: probably not, at least not directly. The amount stolen, worth a few hundred thousand dollars, is tiny next to XRP's $87 billion market cap.

But sentiment doesn't always follow the math. A security scare involving any wallet in the XRP ecosystem, combined with a pending ledger upgrade and a not-yet-confirmed Ethereum stablecoin story, can still weigh on short-term trading psychology even without moving the fundamentals.

What's clearer is that this is a genuinely busy week for XRP News Today, with a protocol upgrade, a stablecoin roadmap rumor, and a real security incident all landing within days of each other.
