The largest digital bank in Latin America has confirmed the start of operations in the United States alongside a new global product called Nu Global.
The Nu US Launch brings a full suite of everyday banking products, while the new account targets customers who move money across borders, according to the official announcement.
Together, the two moves mark a shift from a region-focused business toward a broader worldwide banking platform, following more than a decade of growth across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.

The Nu US Launch introduces several core products for American customers. Deposits are held through partner Lead Bank, which carries FDIC insurance, and leadership says it wants to become customers' primary banking relationship over time.
A yield of 3.50% APY on the main account, calculated and paid daily
A limited-edition metal debit card with no annual fee
Savings goals with instant access to funds
Free local and international transfers, starting with Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia
A credit card offering unlimited 1.5% cashback, expandable to 2% later
Customers who pair the deposit account with the credit card and complete qualifying transactions can grow their yield to 4.50% APY on savings up to 10,000 dollars.
The firm had earlier received conditional approval for a national bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a step tied to its long-term plans in the market.
Product | Key Detail |
Deposit Account | 3.50% APY, daily payout |
Credit Card | 1.5% cashback, no annual fee |
Boosted Savings | 4.50% APY up to $10,000 |
Bank Partner | Lead Bank, FDIC-insured |
Alongside the Nu US Launch, a separate multi-currency account called Nu Global was introduced for people living international lives.
Deposits placed in that account convert into digital dollars, known as USDC, or digital euros, known as EURC, which are stablecoins pegged to the dollar and euro.
A daily yield of 3.50% APY on USDC balances
A daily yield of 2.20% APY on EURC balances
A virtual Mastercard for spending abroad with no markup on exchange rates
Fee-free transfers across more than 35 countries, starting with Europe and Latin America
Account holders can also trade a curated set of digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, alongside their regular balances, all managed through a single app with round-the-clock multilingual support.
Leadership framed both moves as connected steps in a longer strategy. Founder and chief executive David Velez said the firm spent over a decade proving its model works before expanding beyond its core region, while the local chief executive, Cristina Junqueira, said the goal is a mobile banking experience with no hidden fees, delivered through one app.
This stage follows a strong quarter, with the customer base surpassing 140 million people worldwide, quarterly net income topping 1 billion dollars, and return on equity above 32 percent, based on figures shared by the business.
Sign-ups tied to the Nu US Launch and the new global account are open directly through the company website, with early adopters eligible for a limited-edition metal card tied to the rollout.

Market watchers see the timing as notable given how crowded the US banking and fintech space has become in recent years.
Several digital-first challengers already compete for the same customers the Nu US Launch is targeting, from free checking accounts to high-yield savings tools, meaning differentiation will matter as much as pricing.
The stablecoin-based design behind this offering also places the rollout inside a wider industry trend, as more financial firms experiment with digital dollar and euro tokens for everyday banking rather than treating them as speculative assets.
How regulators in various countries respond to that shift over time could shape how far the Nu US Launch and similar products are able to expand beyond their initial markets.
The Nu US Launch and its global counterpart together signal a bet that a playbook built on low fees and a single mobile app can also work in more competitive, developed markets.
Whether that bet pays off will depend on how quickly new customers can be won away from established banks and other digital challengers already active in the space.
