Pi Network News today puts the spotlight back on Pi DEX launch. Excitement has been building for months, but a fresh breakdown from a community member (Leader GCV Ambassador Indonesia) explains why the decentralized exchange still is not fully live, even after Pi Network Protocol 27 landed on Mainnet.

The short version: Pi DEX exists, it works, and it has been tested. What's missing is the infrastructure needed to open it up network-wide, and that gap is shaping most of the Pi crypto news cycle this week.
Full decentralization on the Pi Network ecosystem depends on Super Node selection, and that step has not happened yet. Super Nodes sit at the center of how the network verifies transactions without relying on a central authority, which makes them a required piece before the PI DEX launch can happen at scale.
Until that selection process wraps up, Pi-DEX stays limited in scope, even though the underlying technology is already built and running in test environments.
Super Node selection: still pending
Pi Launchpad: active, but sandboxed for developers only
Liquidity pools: tested on Testnet, not yet public
Tokenization tools: still being finalized
A DEX-launch is not a single event. It depends on several pieces of infrastructure lining up together.
Supernodes to support decentralized validation
dApps to give the exchange real activity and use cases
Tokenization systems to bring assets on-chain properly
Liquidity pools to support actual trading without heavy slippage
Testnet activity has already shown promise. A token launch tied to a real app in June 2026 pulled in hundreds of thousands of participants using Test-Pi, giving early proof that demand exists once the tools go live.
The design also leans toward product-first projects, so tokens carry real utility rather than existing purely for speculation.
Protocol 27 matters here because it lays groundwork the DEX depends on. As part of Pi Network upgrades 2026, the update went live on Mainnet around September 15, 2026, bringing more flexible authentication methods, public RPC server access for outside developers, and migration support for AMM liquidity pools.
Node operators had to update to version 27.1.x to stay connected, after a short delay in pushing the software image, not a formal postponement. That piece, migrating liquidity pool infrastructure toward production, directly feeds into when Pi-DEX can eventually open to the public.
No confirmed date exists yet for full Mainnet trading. A next-stage release, referred to as the Pi v28 update in some early discussions, has not officially started either. This is exactly the kind of Pi Network update today that the Core Team tends to confirm gradually rather than all at once.
$PI coin price action has moved in the opposite direction of the DEX progress story, and that split is worth breaking down.

Source: CoinMarketCap Official
PI price: $0.0833, down 3.8% over 24 hours
Pi market cap: roughly $933.72 million, now sitting just under the $1 billion mark it held before this latest drop
24-hour volume: $12.04 million, down 14.67%
Circulating supply: 11.21 billion PI out of a 100 billion max supply
The CLARITY Act failure in the U.S. Senate appears to be the bigger driver here. That bill's stall triggered a wider risk-off mood across digital assets, and Pi's drop lines up closely with that broader move rather than standing apart from it.
The crypto market today has stayed mostly flat to slightly positive elsewhere, which makes Pi's decline stand out as underperformance tied to its own news cycle plus regulatory spillover, not just general market weakness.
Pi DEX remains a Testnet-proven system waiting on real-world infrastructure to catch up. Super Node selection, expanded dApp activity, and completed liquidity groundwork will likely decide how soon that changes.
Price weakness has not matched the technical progress so far, but that gap tends to close once genuine on-chain usage shows up. For anyone following Pi Network News closely, the clearest signal ahead will not be another price swing. It will be the first real trading activity once Pi DEX opens beyond the testing stage.
