Pi Network News: Protocol 27 Testnet And DEX Progress

Pi Network News: Ecosystem Developments Influence Pi Price Today

Pi Network news this week points to an ecosystem moving on several fronts at once. Protocol 27 is now confirmed on Testnet 2, a fresh KYC fix just cleared migration roadblocks for close to a million users, and a non-custodial wallet is reviewing Pi's newest APIs for a possible integration.

Each piece touches the others — smart contracts feed the DEX roadmap, KYC fixes feed mainnet migration, and wallet integration talks feed everyday utility. Together they tell a single story: infrastructure is advancing quickly, even as the token price tells a rougher tale.

Pi Network Protocol 27 Advances On Testnet 2 Toward Full Mainnet

Protocol 27 is now confirmed live on Testnet 2, based on an API screenshot shared by ambassador Okere Eberechi on X. That single line of code marks a real shift.

Pi Network Protocol 27 Advances On Testnet 2

Protocol 27 upgrades smart contract authentication, giving accounts and apps more flexible ways to approve transactions. It also lays early groundwork for automated market maker pools and a decentralized exchange down the line.

The rollout began on Testnet 2, with Testnet 1 already running the updated code, and the mainnet transition targeted for completion within days of the initial announcement.

Pi Node Docker moved to version 27.1.0, and mainnet node operators had to update to that build to stay connected, though everyday miners face no action here, since balances and mining continue without interruption.

Rollout has stayed staged rather than instant:

  • Testnet 1 has moved ahead to Protocol 28 groundwork in some checks.

  • Testnet 2 runs Protocol 27.

  • Mainnet nodes are still completing the update, with some snapshots still showing Protocol 26 as current.

A Protocol 28 update already sits on the roadmap as the next item, but node operators have been told directly not to start any 28.0 work yet.

Pi DEX Progress And KYC Fixes Push Mainnet Migration Forward Steadily

DEX development has stayed active on testnet through the Pi Launchpad. The SLICE token launch alone pulled in hundreds of thousands of participants and tens of millions of Test-Pi.

Now, the Protocol 27 supplies the underlying pieces — authentication, RPC support, contract groundwork, needed to eventually move AMM liquidity pools to production.

Adding on, just a day before the Pi Network KYC update clears nearly a million stuck pioneer accounts. The Core Team pushed out technical changes that cleared duplicate-account flags and fast-track wallet errors that had frozen hundreds of thousands of accounts for months.

  • 417,000 accounts cleared from duplicate-account flags.

  • 497,000 fast-track wallets set to unlock within days.

  • Liveness checks now support older phone models.

  • A palm-print verification trial has opened for select users.

  • Indonesian users with unsupported KIA IDs can resubmit.

Full mainnet enablement, though, remains prepared for rather than open.

Broader activation of the new authentication and RPC infrastructure has not been confirmed as complete, and steps like Super Node selection are still pending before open trading becomes possible.

Pi Coin Price Today: Market Reaction To Pi Network Upgrades 2026

Technical progress has seen price strength. The PI coin today surged above 4% to achieve $0.8597.

Pi Coin Price Today

Source: CoinmarketCap Official

  • PI trades near $0.085 as of September 19, 2026

  • The token up close to 4.14%

  • Daily trading volume down 9.61% to $7.8M

  • Market capitalization sits under $1 billion: Currently at $964.46 million

  • PI remains down about 97% from its February 2025 high near $2.98

This uptick follows the roughly 14 to 15 percent drop tied to the Protocol 27 rollout around September 15. Lighter volume behind the bounce suggests the recovery is tentative for now rather than a firm reversal, and it comes alongside the KYC fixes.

Pi Peniwallet Integration Talks Point To Broader Ecosystem Reach

PI Ecosystem growth is not limited to protocol upgrades. Peniwallet, a non-custodial wallet built around a "Spray" feature that distributes tokens across multiple addresses at once, is reviewing Pi's newest APIs for a potential integration.

Peniwallet Founder SirMapy

Founder SirMapy shared the update, placing Pi alongside TON and Asset Chain as networks under review. Here, TON is already in testing, Pi still at an earlier review stage.

Peniwallet currently supports BNB Chain, Solana, and Base. Adding Pi would let holders manage PI inside a self-custody wallet built for community giveaways and fund distribution. Neither side has confirmed a launch date, and Pi does not yet appear in Peniwallet's public documentation.

Put together, Pi Network's roadmap for 2026 shows real, measurable motion: smart contracts maturing, KYC backlogs clearing, DEX groundwork building, and outside wallets circling for integration.

The real ecosystem test now is whether mainnet catches up to what testnet has already proven, and whether utility, liquidity, and partnerships like Peniwallet turn technical progress into something users actually feel.
