Pi coin climbed 3.86% in the past 24 hours to trade near $0.0911, and the biggest Pi Network news driving that move points straight at v27, the network's latest core upgrade.
Pi Network's Protocol 27 is now finishing its journey from Testnet to Mainnet, and Protocol 28 is fully operated on testnet, shifting the ecosystem, arriving days after its original September 15, 2026 v27 rollout date.
A status check across three network environments on September 21, 2026, by a Pioneer–JoJo-π, showed a staged rollout in progress:

Testnet, per the latest Pi Network news: running fully on v28
Testnet2: now operating on v27 as its current protocol
Mainnet: current protocol still reads 26, but supported protocol shows 27

That last line matters. Mainnet software already carries Horizon 27.0.0 and stellar-core 27.1.0, so nodes are ready for the switch, but the active protocol has not flipped yet. Once the mainnet API reports current_protocol_version as 27 instead of 26, that confirms full activation.
v27 lines up with Stellar's own Protocol 27 update and centers on a change called CAP-0071, covering authentication delegation. A smart contract account can hand off its identity check to another address, with credentials tied more tightly to that address.
That cuts transaction bloat and closes some replay risks in cross-account activity. Existing contracts keep working as before; new options become available once the switch flips.
The price side of this Pi Network news cycle looks just as active as the upgrade side. Market cap on Pi now sits at $1.01 billion, with fully diluted value near $9.06 billion. Daily trading volume jumped 110% to $10.72 million.

Circulating supply: 11.24 billion PI of 100 billion total
Two forces are lifting sentiment, and both belong in any honest Pi Network news roundup. Pi Network cleared over 417,000 KYC flags, removing a major hurdle standing between Pioneers and mainnet migration. Bitcoin also rose 4.69% on ETF inflows and a short squeeze, giving smaller coins room to move with it.
Identity checks have long been the bottleneck for Pi's move from Testnet-style balances to real mainnet wallets. Just a few days before, the Core Team launched a fresh round of fixes on the PI KYC side.
Based on official update:
417,000 accounts cleared from duplicate-account flags
497,000 fast-track wallets set to unlock within the week
Liveness checks now working on older phone models
A palm-print verification trial launched for select users
Indonesian Pioneers with unsupported KIA IDs can now resubmit
Clearing hundreds of thousands of flagged accounts signals faster processing, though a large share of the Pioneer base has not completed the move. Migration and KYC checks continue alongside the protocols rollout rather than trailing behind it.
The final piece of today's Pi Network news ties the upgrade back to everyday users.
v27 is infrastructure , not a product Pioneers will notice directly. It expands what smart contracts and apps can do around authorization, building on earlier work from version 25 and 26. A public decentralized exchange and automated market maker pools remain largely in testing rather than open on mainnet. v28 already sits on internal roadmaps but is marked as paused, so near-term focus should shift toward tools, apps and stability instead of another rapid core update.
The technical box is close to being checked. What happens next, in terms of real dApp activity, open trading and sustained demand, will decide whether v27 becomes more than a version number in an API response. Expect the next round of Pi Network news to focus on that shift, from software readiness to actual usage across the ecosystem.
