XRP News Today: Binance Hack, Ripple's $200M Freeze and ETF Flows

One of the biggest incidents in crypto history hit Binance on October 29, 2026, and it rattled the whole market.

The coin dropped about 8% from its high before bouncing, trading volume more than doubled, and Ripple helped freeze about $200 million linked to the incident.

At the same time, U.S. funds holding this coin took in money while Ethereum and Solana funds lost it.

XRP News Today explains each story in plain words, using only official statements and data.

The Price Right Now: A Sharp Drop to $1.20 and a Partial Rebound

The coin was trading near $1.25, down 2.79% over 24 hours, after falling from a high near $1.313 to a low near $1.204.

The 24-hour number hides a bigger swing. The chart opened near $1.291 and rose to about $1.313 around 9:40 PM on the chart’s clock.

It then held near $1.29 to $1.30 until about 1:30 AM, when it began to slide. It fell to about $1.236 within an hour, kept sinking, and hit a low near $1.204 around 7:30 AM.

From the high to the low, that is a drop of about 8%. The coin then bounced to about $1.266 around noon and now sits near $1.25, which is about 4% above the low.

Volume more than doubled, so the move came with heavy trading. Readers following XRP news today should note that the slide began around the time the BNB news broke, but timing alone does not prove cause.

What Binance Has Confirmed About the Security Incident

BNB is the world’s largest crypto exchange. According to Binance’s official statement on X, an initial investigation suggests the incident may involve a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer.

According to Binance official statement

A DevOps engineer is a staff member who looks after the company’s internal systems.

That access let an attacker reach an internal system that handles withdrawals and submit unauthorized withdrawal requests. There is no evidence of a wallet key leak.

Co-CEO Richard Teng’s message to users adds more detail. The attack was not a single one-click action and involved a more complex process.

Binance has revoked the affected address approvals and brought in law enforcement and blockchain tracing firms. SAFU is Binance’s emergency reserve, built to protect users in exceptional cases.

Binance has also promised an updated Proof of Reserves, which is a public check that it holds enough assets to cover customer balances, once the repair work is done. Binance.US was not affected.

Story Two: Ripple’s $200 Million Freeze and How Freezes Work

Binance co-founder Yi He thanked the Ripple team for promptly freezing approximately $200 million, adding that user funds are SAFU.

Ripple issues the RLUSD stablecoin, and its stablecoin chief, Jack McDonald, said the company was monitoring the situation and freezing affected funds in coordination with others.

A stablecoin is a digital coin designed to hold a steady value, such as one dollar.

Because a company issues it, that issuer can freeze coins at certain addresses so they cannot be moved. Here is how the freezes add up:

Issuer

Amount frozen

Tether

More than $1.567 billion in USDT

Circle

More than $800 million in USDC

Ripple

About $200 million

Together, that is about $2.57 billion, by our own math, which is close to the $2.54 billion BNB listed as verified earlier.

Freezing cannot undo the incident, but it stops the funds from being moved or sold quickly. BNB has said the frozen total could grow as tracing continues.

Story Three: U.S. XRP Funds Take In Money While Ethereum and Solana Funds Lose It

The second set of data comes from fund flows. On October 29, U.S. funds holding this coin recorded $8.43 million in net inflows, according to SoSoValue’s ETF data.

An ETF is a fund you buy on the stock market, and net inflow means money in minus money out.

Total inflows for the funds holding this coin have reached $1.81 billion since launch, while their total assets are $1.47 billion, down from $1.57 billion on October 21, when the coin traded higher.

The assets figure moves with the coin’s price, so the drop mostly reflects the falling chart.

A timing detail matters here. Binance’s first public statements came in the U.S. evening of October 29, after the stock market closed. So these flows were recorded before the incident, and October 30’s numbers will be the first to show any reaction.

What the Binance Shock Means for Every Crypto Today

Here is what the facts support:

  • Fear spreads quickly: a $6.3 billion incident at the biggest exchange puts pressure on every coin, and this coin’s volume more than doubled.

  • Fast responses matter: Tether, Circle and Ripple froze about $2.57 billion within hours, which shows how stablecoin issuers can act.

  • The fund data predates the incident: the split between inflows and outflows is not a reaction to it.

Anyone following XRP news today should wait for official updates before drawing conclusions. Here is what to watch next:

  • Binance’s withdrawal restart and its updated Proof of Reserves.

  • The total frozen amount as tracing continues.

  • October 30’s fund flows, the first to show a reaction.

  • Whether the coin holds above its low near $1.204.

Conclusion

The Binance incident is large, but Binance says it will cover all losses, and about $3 billion is already frozen.

The coin fell about 8% before recovering part of the drop, while funds holding it still took in money on October 29. For XRP news today, the smartest approach is to follow the official updates and ignore the rumors.
